The Science of Kriyā Yoga

Kriyā Yoga is the science of movement, purification, and attaining divine light. Yoga is the harmonizing science for body, mind, and soul, given by Swayambhū Śiva. The human birth holds a unique potential, but it is threatened by the inner crocodiles of desire, anger, and ego. These negative forces are a consuming fire. One must awaken into the light of kindness, knowledge, and love for all. Humans often become their own enemies through jealousy, hatred, and greed, forgetting their dharma. Yoga is a complete way of life leading to salvation. Kriyā means action and movement, inherent in the expanding universe, the changing stars, and the rotating earth. This perpetual motion exists within the human body through breath, circulation, and thought. Kriyā Yoga is the practice of balancing these inner energies to purify consciousness. Specific Kriyās, like Ujjāyī Prāṇāyāma or Agnisāra, maintain health and awareness. Even digestion and sleep are Kriyās. Consistent practice purifies karma and elevates consciousness toward light; neglecting it causes a rapid decline. This path requires discipline and grace.

"Within you is the ocean of immortality. Within you is the fountain of joy, and within you is the immortal soul."

"Kriyā Yoga is the highest technique within yoga. But with that, you have to have a blessing."

Oṁ Namaḥ Śrī Prabhu Dīpa Nārāyaṇam. Oṁ Namaḥ Śrī Prabhu Dīpa Nārāyaṇam. Oṁ Sabdaśa Prabhu Śaraṇa Parāyaṇam. Oṁ Namaḥ Śrī Prabhu Dīpa Nārāyaṇam. Oṁ Namaḥ Śrī Prabhupāda, Śrī Dīpa Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān Kī Jai. Blessings to all from the Dalak Purījī Siddhāpīṭha Paramparā. To all dear ones, devotees, aspirants, spiritual seekers, and practitioners of yoga. Today’s subject is Kriyā Yoga. Yoga was given by Bhagavān, by Swayambhū, by Devādideva Mahādeva, Śiva. Therefore, we do not say Śiva is Bhagavān. Śiva is not called Bhagavān. Bhagavān is he who is incarnated. But Swayambhū Śiva is that self-existent reality. Thus, he is the Deva of Devas, Mahādeva. Śiva gave the science of yoga to this world. That Śiva, the Swayambhū, existed billions, trillions of years ago. But as Kṛṣṇa said, he incarnates from time to time to protect the pure souls, to protect dharma, and to remove the destroyer, adharma. When Viṣṇu cannot manage to remove the negative, then again Śiva comes. If we see him in every yuga, then we can say Bhagavān Śiva. But otherwise, it is better to say Swayambhū Śiva. Yoga is the science of the body, mind, and consciousness. It harmonizes body, mind, and soul. Yoga is health for the physical, mental, social, and spiritual being. The aim of human life—finally, lucky are those who obtain a human body. Within the human body is that energy, that talent, which others do not possess. Therefore, the great saint Swami Sivanandaji of Rishikesh said: "Within you is the ocean of immortality. Within you is the fountain of joy, and within you is the immortal soul. Kill this little 'I' and lead the divine life. O human, realize this." For what is a human born? Khānā, pīnā, bhogānā—eating, drinking, and procreating—animals are also expert in this. O human, do not make this mistake. Do not awaken your negative talents. Negative is also a talent. Which kind? Ego, jealousy, hatred, pride, etc. These qualities—kāma, krodha, mada, lobha, moha, and ahaṅkāra—are known as the five crocodiles. Constantly, they are watching you, and be sure they will eat you. But the great sense is, they are beyond crocodiles. It is fire, agni, and it is such a big fire that you cannot escape. Kāmāgni, krodhāgni, jatharāgni, virāgni—different kinds of agnis that will burn you, your anger, your jealousy, your hatred, everything. Therefore, awake, awake into the light. And light means happiness, mercy, kindness, humbleness, knowledge, helpfulness, non-violence, and peace. Love all entities. Mahāprabhujī said, if not more, then at least that much, as much as you love thyself. So, how should the human realize this? Because humans have, first, the ego. And when a human does not have the spiritual injections of the great sense, then a human is also ready to kill another human. That is why, some yugas ago, some centuries ago—do not go very far—many islands, even big ones, had humans eating humans. It was not easy to protect humans from humans. That is why there was a small population. Now, there is a large population because humans do not like the taste of the human body. That is why the population grows like this. But now they have lost spirituality, so they are killing themselves. Before, humans were killing humans or other animals, but now they are killing themselves. With what? Different kinds of ego: jealousy, hatred, cruelty, drugs, alcohol, and that greed to have everything. The ego of the human is killing the human. So do not think that all humans will come to liberation. No. You have to fulfill all the criteria of human dharma. Even when you go for a visa, they give you one, two, three, four points, and you have to answer every point. When I came from Australia just now, two weeks ago, at the Australian border, they checked everything. I forgot only one point. They said, "Please, can you answer this one point?" I said no, and they gave the stamp, and it was done. Yes. If at the immigration border they do not let you go, do you think that in God’s kingdom they will let you go? There are many, many Rākṣasas sitting before that. There are many who ask that kind of criteria: "Did you fulfill this? Have you been nice to your sisters?" If she says, "No," then, "Go back. Oh my God, be good to your sisters." Have you been good to your brothers? If she says, "No," then go back. Were you good to your dog? No. Were you good to your neighbors? Dharma, human dharma. Therefore, yes, they got a chance to come to human life because there is a little enemy for humans. Now, humans themselves are enemies. They are their own enemies. That is it. So, Swayambhū Śiva gave the science of yoga, which is not only physical exercises, not only breathing, not only concentrating, but something more. Yoga is a way of life. Yoga is a way to salvation. Yoga is a way to self-realization. Yoga is to God. Then yoga brings you to the infinities. But which kind of yoga? There are hidden powers within us, but we do not know where. Kriyā Yoga is also one kind of yoga. According to the Bhagavad Gītā, there are eighteen different kinds of yoga: Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Rāja Yoga—which Patañjali explains, which Vivekānanda also explains—and Jñāna Yoga. But the Bhagavad Gītā said eighteen and beyond. Beyond these four—Rāja Yoga, Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Jñāna Yoga—there is another called Haṭha Yoga. There is Nāda Yoga, Sahaja Yoga, and Kriyā Yoga. So there are many, many techniques. Kriyā. What does Kriyā mean? Kriyā means activities. Now, Kriyā begins from space, Ākāśa, the universe. What does that mean? Space is expanding and contracting; it is changing all the time. It is not static. No, no, no. Space, the universe, is constantly moving. If you do not trust me, then go to the science study, and go further; you will see, yes. How? Water is deep. The deeper it is, the cleaner; the shallower, the dirtier, because the deep water is automatically changing and purifying. Similarly, ākāśa, anant, anant—but anant is moving. You can realize this through Kriyā Yoga and Nāda Yoga: Nāda Rūpa Parabrahma. The sound and space, their movement, creates energy. And that energy is a Kriyā. So first, Kriyā means movement. Kriyā means action. Kriyā means changing. It begins in the universe. There are numberless billions, trillions of stars. They are also changing. They are also falling. Everything is moving. They depend on gravities, and then the sun. There are also more suns, not only one. The moon changes, from full moon to black moon, dark moon, new moon. Its position changes relative to the sun; it is changing. If the full moon were constant, everyone would be crazy. Emotion—emotion means motion in. You are in motion. So psychology, this is a cycle of your logic which you cannot master. Your inner feelings, movements, you cannot master, and you cannot understand. You have forgotten what is in your subconsciousness. It is there, but we do not know, like our memories getting lost. You know the person, you know the face, but you say, "Let me think, what is the name of that person?" Why? Because a long time has passed, and one after the other, layer after layer. And so it is that our consciousness changes. Now, the sun changes, the moon changes, stars fall. So also comes our earth. Our earth is not always equal. It is divided. Australia is about 10,000 or 11,000 kilometers distance from India near Calcutta. But long ago, they were together. Now they are separate. So who knows, again something will change. The many islands, they are changing. We come to the earth. Earth is changing, though you do not feel it. Earth has its environment; Earth has its time. When you put a seed in, it will grow, and when it is not the time, that seed will not grow. If it sprouts, it will die. Winter seeds we can only cultivate in winter; summer seeds only in summer. Nature. So Earth is also working. All five elements are moving and working. Now, come to the human body. You are constantly changing. You do not know you are changing. Suddenly, the next day you have white hair. How did you change? How, from where did you bring the color white? Many things. All the tissues in the body are never in one place. They are moving. So these are moving. Now our joints are moving, our blood circulation is going, our breath system is going. This is called Kriyā. Similarly, the Kriyā by which we can balance our emotion, our mind, our consciousness, and we can work with that energy in our body which Śiva has given. Through this controlling, bringing things in order, that is a Kriyā. One round of Kriyā purifies one month’s karma, or one day’s karma. But I said to Mahāprabhujī, it is too long. One day of Kriyā, only one Kriyā, cleans only one day. One year has 365 days, so Gurudev, I am not living so long. So how will I come? So Gurujī, Mahāprabhujī said, it is one year of purification, one month purification, one yuga’s purification. My son, it is a different kind of Kriyā. But you do the Kriyās, and if you have no discipline for that, then it is lost. Therefore, the practice of Kriyā ensures that our consciousness will be purified and we will come to that divine light. Now, Kriyās. So, Kriyās are something to do. Cooking is a Kriyā. Cooking is a Kriyā. It is called Pakśāstra. Cooking Kriyā is called Pakśāstra. And Pakśāstra is different; there are signs. But it is not only that there are signs; there are different things. There are metals, there are signs, there are proteins, etc. So what is it? There are only signs? It is not that. So Pakśāstra. And Pakśāstra means the science of cooking. Knowledge of cooking, how to cook, how to digest. That is all. Otherwise, you get ill. Everyone has different opportunities and karmas. You know my karma? Since 1966 till today, I have experimented with eating. Today she cooks for me, tomorrow he cooks for me, the day after tomorrow they cook for me. I am fed up. One says, "I make a specialty of Mexican." Okay. Others say, "I have a specialty of Peru." Okay. Some say Australian specialties, okay. Wherever you go, they give. That means good. They have love. Italian specialties. They said, "Oh, Italian spaghetti, this and that." Oh, this cheese and that. Oh, very good. Oh, the olives and olive oil. You go to Greece. Greece specialty: feta cheese, potatoes, tomatoes, salad, olives, and olive oil. You know, my God, I have so many dishes, varieties, that I call it an experiment. And if I do not eat, then they will say, "Oh, so arrogant." They prepare, or they also say they are sad and arrogant. That I will make my food, I will give it to you. So that is why my body is now showing some kind of resistance. Like a resistance, you know. Now, the mosquitoes, Indian mosquitoes, they are resistant to many chemical things. You can spray, but they will come and enjoy the blood and fly. Resistance. So sometimes resistance, if not physically, then mentally at least, because I respect them, I respect their cooking, I respect their taste, and of course, I always tell them, chili must be there. That is all. So that is a Kriyā. Cooking is a Kriyā. Growing vegetables is a Kriyā, preparing the vegetables is a Kriyā, cooking is a Kriyā, eating is a Kriyā, digesting in the stomach is a Pachan Kriyā. What does this say? So, Pachan Kriyā. There are 65 Kriyās for yogīs declared, and one of them is called the Pachan Kriyā. This knowledge is all by Mahāprabhujī, Devapurījī’s kṛpā through meditation and Gurujī. Only the Pachan Kriyā. Pachan Kriyā means digestion, please. So, Pachan Kriyā means digestion. But also you have to have another Kriyā. And that Kriyā is to pass urine and pass your stool. If you do not have the Kriyā, the power, that you cannot pass your urine, my God, you know how hard it is? You go to the doctor as quickly as possible, then the doctor will give you a catheter. Doctor, sir, thank you. Yes, because that Kriyā does not function, and therefore different kinds of prāṇa are given: prāṇa, apāna, samāna, udāna, vyāna—five prāṇa and five upa-prāṇa. All this prāṇa needs that kind of cooking, that knowledge of the Pakśāstra; that is also a Kriyā. And then also Nidrā Kriyā. Many people cannot sleep. They take tablets, still they cannot sleep. The husband is sleeping and snoring; the wife cannot sleep. Your wife is snoring; the husband cannot sleep. Many, many things. Why? Because the Kriyā does not function. The engine, your car engine running, is a Kriyā. So, my dear, there are many, many different kinds of Kriyās. In the body, our heart also has an engine. Our digestion system is also a system. The whole of our body, and within that, is hidden power. And that hidden power, if you know, then it does not matter which Kriyā will stop one day. It does not matter. With this Kriyā Yoga, you will come. So many, many Kriyās: Ujjāyī Prāṇāyāma is a Kriyā, our Khecarī Mudrā, Khecarī Kriyā. Many, many different kinds of Kriyā. Agnisāra Kriyā. Nauli Kriyā. They are all Kriyās. So Kriyā Yoga keeps our life healthy, fit, and our consciousness alert, aware, and our thinking bright. Therefore, in our yoga and daily life, we have developed the science of the Kriyās. But if you stop practicing the Kriyā which you received, then what happens? It rolls back, and it rolls quickly nowadays. Like a hydraulic lift—in the Bhagavad Gītā, nowadays the hydraulic lift; before it was with a chain. You came to the fifth floor, and the chain broke. Your brakes are not functioning. Going up was slow, but going down quickly, everything collapses. So, in the lift, if you find that the lift is wrong and falling down, there is one chance. Maybe, if you are lucky, there is one chance that you can survive. Do you know that? If the lift breaks and falls, if your fate is good, then there is one chance that you can survive. And that is: jump inside. You jump when the lift falls quickly, and after you are sitting down, your legs are safe, your knees are safe. Therefore, practice yoga with jumping. That is it. That is also Kriyā. Kriyā connected with mantras, guru mantras, and Kriyā with the breath, concentration, and transferring the energy from Mūlādhāra to Sahasrāra and from Sahasrāra to Mūlādhāra, purifying and filtering the negative energy and bringing the light up. So Kriyā Yoga is practice. Learn first yoga, practice first mantras, and when you are sure that you will practice, then you should take the Kriyās. Otherwise, it can reveal, and it will not be good. This falling quickly means Naraka Yoga. Falling means I am not on the ground, okay? Endless, endless bottom. Naraka. But coming up to the light, that is slowly but sure. Therefore: Kāraṇaya antarāyāmī binā kāraṇaya sāre. Mahāprabhujī’s and Gurujī’s bhajans: Gurudev binā kāraṇaya sāre. Kārya means your work, or you have something to do; it cannot be done without Gurudev’s kṛpā. Gurudev binā kārya nahīṁ sāre, you cannot be successful. Koti upāyā kare koī cāhe. Koti means thousand. Thousands of Kriyās in this and that you can do by your own will. "Na bhavasindhu tere," you cannot cross that endless ocean. Karaj Koti upāya kare, koī chahe. Koti upāya kare, koī chahe. Inābhava sindho Tere gurudevam. Karaj na Antar jāmī binā, karaj na. Kriyā Yoga is the highest technique within yoga. But with that, you have to have a blessing. Blessing means you have a good driver, very alert, aware. A little sleep, you will die. A little mistake, you will have an accident. And not only yourself, you will kill all with you. It means you will take all who made a negative, blackmailing, negative societies. So, whoever joins you will also fall. Agadari Om Tatsat. So, wish you all the best. And tomorrow we will speak again. Oṁ Namaḥ Śrī Prabhu Dīpa Nārāyaṇam. Oṁ Namaḥ Śrī Prabhu Dīpa Nārāyaṇam. Haṁsabhādas Prabhu Śaraṇa Parāyaṇam. Haṁsabhādas Prabhu Śaraṇa Parāyaṇam. Oṁ Namaḥ Śrī Prabhu Dīpa Nārāyaṇam. Oṁ Namaḥ Śrī Prabhu Dīpa Nārāyaṇam. Śrī Dīpa Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān.
