Morning satsang from Umag, Croatia

The individual soul must merge with universal consciousness. Śiva is the self-manifested consciousness, the essence of the universe. From this consciousness emerges the creative principle. The soul journeys through the elements, with water as the primary medium of life, containing the Viṣṇu principle. The human body mirrors the cosmos, containing the trinity of creator, protector, and liberator. Difficulties are the best school for spiritual growth. One must maintain purity, accept situations, and cultivate devotion. The divine name has power that surpasses even that of the divine form. The goal is for the individual drop of water to become the ocean.

"The essence of the endless universe is that Śiva."

"Jīva merges into Śiva. This light of your life merges into the universal one."

Filming location: Umag, Croatia

Hari Om, everyone. Blessings of Śrī Mahāprabhujī and a beautiful morning. Today is Tuesday, the day of a great devotee, Haṇumānjī. Sunday is for the Sun, Monday is for Śiva, and Tuesday is for the Sun—that is Haṇumānjī, also known as the son of the wind. It is a day for strength: physical, mental, and the strength of wisdom. Haṇumānjī was an incarnation of Śiva. It is like this: in some yugas, Viṣṇu comes to the service of Śiva, and in some yugas, Śiva comes to the service of Viṣṇu. Viṣṇu worships and meditates on Śiva, and Śiva worships and meditates on Viṣṇu. But Śiva is the first one known as Svayaṃbhu. Svayambhū means one who manifested himself out of nothing—no father, no mother. Śiva is known as that Paramachaitanya, and that is called Brahman. The entire universe, space, is like the mother, and the consciousness or Brahman is within the space. That is called Śivajyoti. That Śivajyoti means the light of the Svayambhū, Śiva. Between these two, space and consciousness, is called Śakti, energy. That energy manifests; that Śivajyoti is manifested out of that energy. Jyoti means the flame, the light, and that Jyoti is known as Jīvan Jyoti. Jīvan means life—the flame of life. That Śivajyoti appears through the Nāda. Śivajyoti first appears in the form of the Nāda: Nāda-rūpa-parabrahma. The form of the Supreme is that resonance, and that Nāda we call is home. When this OṂ resonance is resonating in the entire endless universe, the essence of it all is Śiva. Imagine a big fruit; this big fruit has one seed inside. The essence of the whole fruit is that one seed. So the essence of the endless universe is that Śiva. Śiva means consciousness. Śiva means liberation. Śiva means the protector. Śiva means the creator. Śiva means the beauty, and Śiva means the ultimate truth: Satyam, Śivam, Sundaram—the truth, Śiva, the beauty. That light appears, and out of that light appears that which is called the Yugapuruṣa, or you may call the universal one. Then he who manifests creates the different principles, the tattvas. He creates Viṣṇu. Śiva tells Viṣṇu, "You go and make tapasyā, austerity." Out of that austerity of Viṣṇu—because Śiva said, "Go and stay in the water"—the water element begins, and that is called the ocean. In this ocean, Viṣṇu is residing. That is called Kṣīra-sāgara, the ocean of immortality. Then Śiva creates Brahmā and tells Brahmā to take his position on that ocean, on the lotus. So the lotus grows out of Viṣṇu's navel, on which Brahmā takes place. It is not that Brahmā is created out of the navel of Viṣṇu, but it is out of the navel of Viṣṇu that the lotus comes as a seed for Brahmā. It is Brahmā then who creates the Saptaṛṣis, the first one called Manu, and so on. This mythological picture, symbol, is that the Jīvātmā, the soul, in this space, the astral world, comes through the elements. First through the water: the rain, the clouds, the fogs, because in the water is the fire, and fire is Viṣṇu, and Viṣṇu is the life. That life as a seed is the core of the entire creation, which is given to Brahmā, but inside is the soul. As a soul, it is called Viṣṇu. That cannot live without water. Fire cannot exist without water. Therefore, in your language also you say, water is life. We say, where there is water, there is the Lord of this planet, God. So what does it mean that water is life? In that water is the Viṣṇu Tattva, and that is our life. When the soul first enters the mother's body, it has a connection to the mother's navel through the mother's womb. The embryo is like a lotus growing out of the navel. Creation is like Brahmā. So on that, Brahmā is here now, known as the buddhi, intellect. In a human, within nine months, that Brahmā takes place. It sits on the lotus. So our body is like a lotus, and we are connected with the navel. That navel is the life and place of the fire: jāṭharāgni, the digestive fire, the solar plexus. There is the seat of Viṣṇu, and there is the water. The soul travels through the water. As the Upaniṣad said, it comes with the water, goes to the vegetation, turns, comes to the seeds of the grass or any seeds, and multiplies as the seeds further. That Śivajyoti is our Jīva. We call the soul as jīva. But the jīva is the essence of Śiva. Now the jīva has to become Śiva. You all are the individual souls. Now you have to become one with the universal. Imagine you hold in your hand one drop of water. This drop in your hand is yourself. That is Jīva. Śiva is the ocean. When the one drop from your hand drips into the ocean, there is no more drop there, but only ocean. So Jīva merges into Śiva. This light of your life merges into the universal one, Śiva. From this ocean, the steam, through the fire, goes up. We call it ocean, then we call it steam, then we call it clouds. Then we call it rain, the drops. Then it unites and is flowing water; it becomes a stream, a creek, and a river. Finally, all the time, the destination of the water is again the ocean. It doesn't matter where it flows, where it rains, maybe a thousand kilometers far from the ocean, but the destination is the ocean. The water which is within our body also has its destination, the ocean. Our planet, which has more quantity of water... When we were little at home, parents used to say, when we put a lid on a cooking pot, you have something to hold, so they said, "What you can hold is earth, and the rest is the water." Now, 80% or 85% in our body is water. Our Earth is known as the living planet because this planet has water inside. This water is the blood of the planet, which means the life of the planet. We are very closely connected to this planet. We are the mobile tree. Some trees are fixed here, and we are the trees which can move everywhere. But we are affected by weather, by seasons, and by the years, as the trees are affected. What happens in nature happens in our body, and what is happening in our body is happening with nature too. This is called Sanātana Dharma. Sanātana Dharma is not a man-made religion, but it is a universal principle. You are a Sanātana; your being here is a Sanātana. You have five elements, you have Jīva as a soul, individual. There is a Viṣṇu who is protecting you inside, then that consciousness, Śiva, and then the intellect as Brahmā: creator, protector, and liberator. This trinity is within you, and you have all the strength. You have all the symbols of the universe. You know the thunderstorms and lightning that you have also within you. Oh God, when the wife is angry, then the husband keeps quiet and goes to the office. He sits at the table, takes the newspaper, and reads it. Because the thunderstorms and the lightning are very strong. At that time, it is better that you protect yourself. So you should have a very good protection against the lightning, the earthing. You must have the earthing. That's why the men have here the hair, you know, choṭī. This is earthing, which goes down. So when the wife is full of emotion, then you should know how to put this energy through an earthen cable, and that cable is accepted. Don't look in the eyes. Yes. That time, don't look in the eyes. Say, "Yes, darling, you are right." Then it will be more thundering. So when it begins to thunder strongly, then there is the hope that nice, cool rain will come; cool weather will come. When the thundering is there, then the tension is released. So one must have tension, husband or wife. And when a man is also angry and thundering, then you just bring nice coffee with sugar inside. Just put it there and go. Immediately, all tension will go to the coffee, and he will say, "I don't drink coffee, you know that. Sorry, but I thought today you can have your coffee." He begins to think, "Actually, she loves me and tried to make me happy. How stupid I am that I'm angry." Who thinks? The man. This example, please, ladies and gentlemen, don't be angry. This is called communication to remove the tension which you have in the family. Accept. Accept the situation first, and then take a step by accepting it. To say sorry, you don't lose anything. In this way, in our body, it says, yathā brahmāṇḍe tathā piṇḍi: what is in the universe is existing in your body, human. And what is not in your body is not in the universe. So Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Maheśa, Indra, Goddess, Śakti, everything is in you. These are the different principles. Your kindness is God. So God is love, love is God. And love is there where there is appreciation, acceptance, understanding, and mutual understanding. We are sitting here on the beach, the Adriatic coast, most beautiful. Today is Tuesday, the day of Haṇumānjī. People are fasting, and this picture reminds me of a beautiful story about God Rāma, who was an incarnation of Viṣṇu. God comes here, and he also has to go through our destiny. It is said in your teaching, in the Bible, that Jesus came to take away our sin, our destiny. So it is the same thing. It doesn't matter if it is Jesus or Kṛṣṇa or Rāma or Mahāprabhujī or any incarnation. Every incarnation who comes on this planet has to go through difficulties. It is not that they can't do anything against something, but they show us that in this world there are troubles, and we must go through destinies. A person who is doing more good things has to go through more troubles. Sometimes they say, "How is it possible that a holy saint has so many illnesses?" But you know, all who you believe in that holy saint—how many times have you prayed to that person to take away your problems, to bless you to become free from illness? And how many times he prays for you, that God forgives you and makes you healthy? So the reflection comes to the person too. A goldsmith or an ironsmith, a blacksmith—when a blacksmith is heating iron, it is the iron which is burning in the fire or getting hot. But some percentage of the heat, the blacksmith also gets. Similarly, the holy saints who are in this world get also our destiny, our karma; some percentage they have to go through. If we read what was Jesus, and in his lifelong he did good things, now, must be that he was crucified? Was that necessary? Couldn't he escape? No. He had to go through that destiny. Kṛṣṇa, even one of the incarnations, what we call in these manvantaras one of the highest, greatest incarnations—you know, he also had difficulties. He also went through many difficulties, was born in prison, was taken away from his father through the Yamunā River. Many times Kaṁsa attacked and sent his messenger to kill Kṛṣṇa, and so on, and at the end, also someone shot Kṛṣṇa with arrows, with archery. So, was that necessary? Yes. Because God shows us that we have to go through difficulties. The difficulties are the best school. Problem is the best university. The people who experienced the Second World War, First World War, and 10-15 years after the Second World War, those who were born then know what their life means. They know what their food is. They know what their money is. And they are very successful business people. But now these kids, computer children, they don't know what money is. They don't know what life is. They didn't experience. And therefore, they will suffer a lot when they are old. Then they don't know what to do, because they have no motivation and feelings, and they can't imagine. You may be now Croatian, cannot imagine a person having evening nothing to eat. Don't forget, just one decade ago, so-called ex-Yugoslavians, many of my disciples, they told me that, "Swāmījī, we spent time in the forest, in the cold, and we had nothing to eat the whole week." And for children, we had children with them. They dig some roots and things. Don't forget those days. It can happen anytime. So God always shows us the way that difficulties are the best school of your life. Work hard. Honestly, when you earn something through honesty, that is the best thing. Make your blood into sweat. Sweating. That's it. That's very important. Rāma also had to go through many, many difficulties. You know the whole story of Rāma. His father was married to three queens, and all three of them had children. And kuśāṅga can destroy the whole family. So the Kekai, one of the queens, was very greedy, and she had a kuśāṅga. At that time, it was tradition that the eldest son would become king of the whole world. Now, thanks to God, democracy came. And in democracy, it means all demon crazy. Demons, crazy, democracy, so again they are all crazy to become ministers. But thanks to God, if I say the demons don't have a long life, so it is bound to a five-year period; they have life only five years. But you know the vampires, Draculas, when they bite, and the next one is getting ready. So, unfortunately, getting ready all the time. It is said that the devil's negative forces have a kind of energy. If you kill them, again they come to life. It is not easy to kill negative energy. That is why there is another story, which I will tell you next time, maybe. So there was one devil, Rākṣasa, and no one could kill him. Finally, Śakti, she has to come. And when Śakti killed him, he again became alive. And it was promised that no one could kill her again, the same person. So, nine times she came every day with a new form, and finally, she managed the ninth time. This is dedicated nine days to Divine Mother Navratri. And that begins now. It will begin on the new moon: Divine Mother's Day. Every day, she, for the sake of protecting the entire planet and freeing it from negative energy. So equally worshipped is a male or female god; it doesn't matter. In spirituality, there is no duality of the genders. In spirituality, there is no man and woman. No. Truth is truth. The duality and discrimination are in the physical form. But don't worry. Even in your hand, maybe your hand is dirty or clean, but what is in your palm, that is important. So inside is a diamond, or coal, or a snake; that depends. So it doesn't matter if it's a body of the male or the female. What kind of divine soul is inside? That is important. That's why we equally worship and respect Divine Mother. You know, he also adored the Mother Mary, because she gave birth to such a great soul, like Jesus. So what karma did she have? What did she do that such a soul chose her body? And she lived a very simple and honest life. And when someone is simple and honest in life, they have to go through many, many problems. So, all of you have the same rights. Just purify yourself. Don't become a garbage basket for negative things. Keep yourself pure. Sometimes you have to wait lives and lives. Girls, don't think that I want to have a husband; I want to have a man. So many telephones me, girls. Not girls, all, every lady. Nowadays, after 18 or 19 years, you are old. It's a Kali Yuga. But mostly they say, "Swamiji, I am alone." And what should I do? Make mantra. Mala. She said, "Mala, too, mala." Yeah, I was married. How many times? Few times. This is the weakness of you ladies that makes you lower. You should wait, and then it will come. It will come. The Divine will come. But every day you are looking for the junk food, yeah. You must eat solid organic, okay? Not junk. And the same thing with the boys. So these ethic principles, moral principles—that's why we have Holy Mother Maria on the altar. That's why we have holy mother Chandandevījī, Matajī's mother, Mahāprabhujī's mother. Which karma did that lady have, that such a divine soul chose her body? How much this body has been doing austerity, sādhanā, tapasyā. So don't change your opinion, your feelings every minute. Dṛṣṭi doṣa. You can make sin through your look. So you must have purity in your dṛṣṭi. If you see any girl, any lady, why don't you see that lady as your mother? Why don't you see that lady as your daughter? Why do you think differently? Why don't you see in every man your father and your brother? That's it. So dṛṣṭi is looking, and doṣa means the sin. We can make sin through our visions. And how many times do you use that junk food? Thanks to the modern kind of food, it helps me to talk. Helps me to talk, to find a word. Mahāprabhujī said in one bhajana: Chandana śarīr, very pure look they have in their eyes, and bhāvanā chandana śarīr, their body is like sandalwood. So purity. Then the God consciousness comes in you. Even the coal mind diamond comes there. So what we call, we say when money is lost, nothing is lost. Health is lost, something is lost. But the character is lost, everything is lost. And this is spoken for humans, because animals don't lose. Animals lose only one thing: their health. They don't lose money. They never go bankrupt. You see how happy they are. They are not influenced by the world economy. Only we humans are troubling nature. So, that is that: Rāma has to go for 14 years into the forest, and then Rāvaṇa came and he kidnapped Sītā. You know the whole story. Then Rāma meets Haṇumānjī, and Haṇumānjī gets the duty that he should go and search for Sītā. He searched all the whole earth, caves, forests, deserts, trees; nowhere did they find her. But then the message got out that Rāvaṇa had taken her and flown to Sri Lanka. It was about 10,000 years ago. That time they had aeroplanes. And that aeroplane's name was Puṣpavāhana, the flowers. The speciality of that plane was that, with your wish, it could become smaller or bigger. It can become bigger for thousands of people, or as a two-seater flyer or one-seater flyer. That was the specialty of that airplane. In Chicago, there is one library. For five years, three Americans came to our library every day, and they read especially that chapter of the Holy Rāmāyaṇa: from what and how did they make this aeroplane? But they couldn't find the technology. So Haṇumānjī was sitting on the beach and looking to the ocean far, far, how many kilometers. Now, the question is, how to cross the ocean? That was the question, but Haṇumānjī had a siddhi. Pavanaputra, he is the son of the wind. So he was quick and strong like the wind, fine like the wind. So he then jumped, levitated, and he came to Sri Lanka, and he found Sītā, and so on and so on and so on. I will not tell the whole story. Sītā was kept in the park, and Sītā didn't want to accept Rāvaṇa, so Rāvaṇa kept her in the park. Sītā didn't want to stay in any house, only under the tree. Haṇumānjī came. But Sītā didn't believe Haṇumānjī. She thought it was some other Rākṣasa. So then Haṇumānjī gave her one ring, because Rāma gave Haṇumānjī a ring. "If you find Sītā, she will not trust you. Show her this ring." So Haṇumānjī threw the ring in front of her, Sītā. Even she didn't look up to see Haṇumānjī, and she saw the ring, and she cried. And she said, "My son, take me to my Lord." He said, "I'm sorry. He told me, 'Only find out where she is.' He didn't tell me, 'Bring her back.' For me, it's no problem; I will just take you in any minute. But the boss said, 'Only that.'" Guru Vakya. She was very sad. But he said, "Don't worry, I will inform him, and we will arrange for you to come back as soon as possible." So Haṇumānjī came back and told Rāma. And Rāma asked, "How is Sītā?" He told the whole story. Rāma was very sad. Rāma was very sad and asked, "What did she say?" She said, "Take me to the Lord." And what did you say? I said what you said to me: "Find out where she is. You didn't tell me to bring her." Rāma said you did good. Because they stole property. We don't steal back; we bring it with respect. So you did good, Haṇumānjī. Now they decide to go. As Haṇumānjī was believed as a monkey god, but they were not a monkey; they were tribes looking like monkeys. The whole army of the tribes were sitting on the beach like we are sitting, and the question was, "How to cross the ocean?" Haṇumānjī could fly. Rāma was sitting there, Lakṣmaṇa was sitting there. How to cross? Let's say you have to go to Italy. There is no boat, no aeroplane. We can't swim through. There are many enemies. There are sharks who didn't have breakfast yet, and when people like you come, sharks say, "This is very juicy, fresh butter and bread and cheese, juicy, very juicy." So Haṇumānjī said, "Let's build a bridge." And everybody said, "What? How many million years will it take us to build a bridge?" Haṇumānjī said, "No, no, no." He took one stone, and on this stone he wrote the name of God Rāma, Rām. And he threw it in the ocean. The stone was fluttering. Now, all the thousands of monkeys, tribes, they wrote a rhyme and threw the stone. Like this, they began to build the bridge. They were fluttering. Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa, both brothers, were sitting. And Rāma said, "Lakṣmaṇa, we should also work." So God Rāma took the stone and threw it into the ocean. The stone went down. He took the second stone and threw it into the ocean. It went in. And these monkeys and Haṇumānjī, they throw anything, and it's floating. Rāma said to Lakṣmaṇa, "I don't dare to work anymore. What should I do? What have I done wrong?" Lakṣmaṇa said, "Brother, ask Haṇumānjī." Rāma said, "Haṇumān, come here. What power do you have? That power I don't have. What God? What do you mean? You throw this stone in the water, and the stone is fluttering. And I throw it, and it is going down. It sinks to the bottom." He said, "Yes, Lord. Though you are a Lord, you don't have that power, Lord. What do you mean, you know? God doesn't matter who is who—stone or humans or anyone—whom you drop from your hands have no chance to survive, will go down. So please don't do this. Just sit down and relax. We have the power of your name. We write your name, and it is you who is working with us." So he said, "I will write also." He said, "No, Lord, that becomes ego, and that will go down again. So relax, Master." Like this, they built the bridge, and they went to Lanka and so on. Then they came back, and God Rāma blessed the bridge. And the bridge went down. That bridge was founded now, you know that. Through the satellite, they researched that it's not a rock. It is something man-made. And you know the whole story of this, unfortunately. The Indian government would like to break that bridge to make an international transport, the sea transport. Many spiritual people around the world and scientists are against it. That became a political matter, like between Slovenia and Croatia. So it reminds me of today's story of Haṇumānjī's day, that we are all sitting on the beach and looking at the ocean. Now what to do? How to cross the ocean? That's it. That's a very nice question. So we shall develop the devotion as Haṇumānjī had. They asked Haṇumānjī, "When Rāma was gone?" Haṇumānjī said, "He is not gone; they are in my heart." And they said, "Stupid." So Haṇumānjī opened his heart. He cleared his skin, and what could they see inside? Sītā and Rāma. So we said, "I am your bhakta." Believe me, please, only that I am not Haṇumānjī, that can open my heart and show you. So in the Bible also you have the Holy Heart, and that is from the tale of Haṇumānjī's heart. That inside is the God, so this is coming from Haṇumānjī. It's Haṇumānjī's heart, not Jesus' heart. So, how the legends are connected and transferred culture to culture? So, enjoy the beach, and I will be sitting and building the bridge. So, we have to go to the Kvarā. It's not very far. The Kvarā is not so far. That's it. Deep Nāma Bhagavad Gītā.
