Mat from dry grass - kushasan - is the best. You should follow ahimsa, non violence. Avoid eating meat and using leather in your car or house. Artifical materials has also bad energies, they gives unnatural heat and tiredness. Than step by step you will reach relaxed body and relaxed breath. Your sankalpa during yoga nidra should be without greed. When sleep comes, you should not refuse but do not sleep. In this way the state of cosciousness called yoga nidra will come. You can practice with CD, if the voice is harmonious. Instuctions should come in a proper rithym due to the breathing of practicioners.
