The Universal Principles of a Happy Life

Yoga in daily life means living by positive principles. The universal goal for all beings is happiness. This happiness involves light, sound, and energy—your wisdom, inner call, and talent to act. Share your happiness with others; this makes it grow. Real happiness does not come from causing others unhappiness. The universal principle found in every heart is love. Love is endless and should increase daily. Become love itself, and you become non-violence. Contentment is mercy awakened in the heart. Breath is life. Learn the abdominal breath for health and longevity. Chanting Aum awakens sound, energy, and light within the three channels.

"Each and every entity is longing and active day and night to realize happiness."

"Your nature is to be happy. Your nature is to share the happiness."

Good morning, all dear brothers and sisters, here and around the world. I wish you a very nice day, a very blessed and happy day. To those who have a birthday, a happy birthday. All dear practitioners of yoga and daily life, spiritual seekers, those who are searching, seeing the truth of life through different philosophies, different techniques, different beliefs, I welcome you all. Yoga in daily life contains everything. I personally believe more in practice. I know the philosophical talk, intellectual talks, are very good. But I would like to always speak in such a simple way that every listener can understand. Anyhow, today is Sunday. A beautiful day. I’m surprised, looking outside the window; the sun is shining today. And here we are. Yoga in daily life means to lead life 24 hours according to the positive principles. It doesn’t matter which belief we have, but there is only one that’s called positive. It doesn’t matter which culture you believe in, but there is only one name, and that’s God. It doesn’t matter which philosophy you believe in; the final one is the only one, the truth. Doesn’t matter how many different things you are trying, but finally there is only one: happiness. These words, which are given by our ancestors after long research work, without making... discrimination? Even no discrimination between humans and animals, or between humans, animals, and environment. What beautiful thoughts they had. It’s very hard to find one word which applies to every creature, which applies to the entire universe, and that is something. And that’s called the universal wisdom. It’s called divine principles. No one has a copyright for that. They gave freely, to all of us, and for all other creatures. These are the universal principles which touch the heart of every creature. Even it touches the heart of the astral beings. And these words are happiness. Our beloved Holy Gurujī used to say, "Each and every entity is longing and active day and night to realize happiness." No one is going to realize unhappiness. So happiness belongs to all. And God has given so much happiness to us that we can share with others. You know, if you tell someone, "Thank you," you share your happiness, and the other is happy. You give one flower. You give a chocolate to a child. You know, how much happiness is awakening in that child. We can make differences to make happiness. And that can make the world a better world. And in this happiness are involved three principles: the light, the sound, and energy. We all know the tragedy that happened in Mumbai, India. So I was watching the news, and after that, in between, came an advertisement. But something positive, I liked it very much. And that’s what I’m telling you. I don’t know which company was advertising and for what they were advertising, but I understood that sense of it. One man was standing, maybe at a railway station or airport or somewhere, and it was raining. Two meters away from him, a lady was waiting with a small child and a bigger child. All they were doing was raining; they were getting wet. And that man was out in a taxi. So he was in front of the queue. A taxi came. He was completely wet, and the taxi opened the door. And that man was looking left side, one child. One lady and one teenage child were also in the rain. He opened the door and told them, "Come, go in, please." He put them in, and he waited himself for the next taxi. That makes a difference. That you think of others. So if we think of others, then our happiness will become bigger and bigger. And you will share this happiness with others, more and more. That lady and her two children, they will not forget him. Even at home, they will tell you that happiness is traveling. Light means your wisdom. Sound means your inner call. And Shakti, the energy, means your talent to act at the right time. That’s the Nāḍī Yoga. The inner voice was telling him, "Look, there’s a little child, and it’s a woman." Be a gentleman. The inner voice was coming. So, happiness. Can you share your happiness with others? There are different kinds of happiness. Boys and girls, be careful. There are two friends. They love each other very much. And a third one comes and sees, or he will hunt the other one. Now these two will be happy, but the other one will be unhappy. That happiness is not real happiness. Or you cheat someone and say, "Look, I gained so much money." That’s not happiness. Your benefit, your karmic benefit, is not in cheating, but to be cheated. Only people will say how stupid you are. Everyone can cheat you. That’s okay, but you don’t take karma, negative karma. So one word which is universal: happiness. Can you share happiness? Find the way. There are many, many thousands of possibilities. Now, opposite to happiness is unhappiness. Everyone feels this, whether animals, plants, humans, any creature, or an astral being. There are many ways to make someone unhappy. And there is only one word which applies to the entire creation: unhappiness. Unhappiness creates the pain. Sadness is unhappiness. You are born to be happy. Your nature is to be happy. Your nature is to share the happiness. But the negative part is to share unhappiness. Now, if you make someone unhappy, it will return to you a thousand times more. Now, if you are happy or unhappy, it is not from this minute, but from your karmic influence from a long time ago. Whatever great men searched, this one sentence, one word, without any titles. Doctor and this and that. No, love has no doctor title. Because this tendency exists in every creature. So, love speaks, love is shining, and love is mighty: light, sound, and energy. Not yoga, but that is awakening within us. Now, love can be of two kinds: one love which is eternal, everlasting, and second is temporary. You love to eat ice cream, and in the evening you put it here. Your wife says, "What happened, darling?" I should not have that. That’s it. A temporary love connected with more suffering. Therefore, I used to say, the joy of the joy is less in joy than the suffering of the joy, or the pain of the joy. After all this, everlasting love is devotion. Amṛho, jisko khāne se mīṭā ho, to aisā ho, which makes you immortal, that is sweet. We all like sweetness: ice cream, chocolate, pudding, honey. We like sweet dishes. But one saint said that sweet which makes us immortal, that kind of sweet we need. And we need that kind of sour, like a lemon, which can spoil our appetite for sensual enjoyment. We are too much attached to the material. It’s a beautiful bhajan. Next time, perhaps I will translate. So, Holī Gurujī made a beautiful bhajan, and you know, love is endless. It can never be enough. Never, both sides: material as well as spiritual. And it is good that it doesn’t have enough. When you say, "Now enough," then it’s decreasing, but it should be increasing. Our problem is that we don’t know how to increase after. It’s decreasing. You had many interests; now they are gone. Nītā, nītā, prem, merā, ādi, kabaddī, jo, nītā, nītā. Every day, my love should increase more and more. So in the last years of his life, Holī Gurujī is writing beautiful Vajra. Jītsal Karasnaya Bhajjanī. Praying means love. Piala is the bowl. When will the Lord fill my pot with love? This pot is without a bottom, so love has no bottom. Let it go. Come on. No end. The end can never be in that. But you have to become the love. Therefore, it is said in Bhajan, "Prem nahī vo sabse pyārā." There is only Mahāprabhujī’s bhajana. He is not a love, but he is dear to all. So turn your consciousness in love. In your consciousness, nothing is dirty. Nothing is negative. You achieve that level of consciousness, you just give love. You know, if I’m not wrong, then there is one song in ex-Yugoslavia that Marcel Tito liked very much, and ex-Yugoslavia was singing it. Now Yugoslavia has many different quarters, and they are taking care of it. And that was... thank you for your kind look. How is that? Can someone tell? Is there some Yugoslavian here? Yes, Yugoslavian? Then why don’t you sing? Just sing, come on. Somebody, sing in the mic. Okay, translate "chichi" please, what it means. Yes, it is beautiful. It is the subject of the Nāḍī Yoga. Sound, light, and you will have no energy. They were singing without energy, in English. Thank you. Thank you for each word which you spoke to us. You, for each look which you direct to us. Thank you for each smile of yours. For all of that, thank you from our hearts. Thank you for your love. Thank you. So when there is love, then everything is radiating love. Your movements, your look, your words, your smile, your touch, everything, because it is only love. Like Holī, Gurujī is writing on the first page of the Līlā Amṛta about Mahāprabhujī. How sweet is his smile, how sweet are his limbs, how sweet is his walk. To dare to look there. These are the borders. But when you become universal, there is no border. Awake such a love for the entire creation. Then you become yourself the form of Ahiṃsā, non-violence. You are not following non-violence, but you become non-violence itself. So one word: love, happiness, love. Now contentment. How difficult to get satisfied. It’s not easy. Our desires grow day by day. When we buy one, we would like to have two. When we buy two, we would like to have three. When we have three sofas, we would like to have a table. And when we have a table, we would like to have a table lamp. And when we have a table lamp, we would like to have a table telephone. And when we have a table telephone, we would like to have their table glasses. And when we have glasses and everything, and you are sitting alone, you would like to have someone also sit with you. Desires grow. You are giving, giving, and you are lost in it. Therefore, again, the great yogīs researched the heart of all creatures, that call mercy, kṛpā. Kṛpā has no title, neither before nor after, only one, that’s kṛpā: mercy, merciful, and that is. A lot in our heart, the human’s heart, when the one petal opens from Anāhata. With the beautiful resonance, and that energy awakens, a smile comes. It is said, when four meet, when four meet, then sixty-four are blossoming. Four meetings and sixty-four is blossoming. It means four eyes: your eyes and the other’s eyes. Maybe one doesn’t have one eye. Then only three. Then we would count only three. Kde je mersi, kde je soucit, milost, 64 teeth: 32 yours and 32, yes, true or not? Then the 32, that’s it. That is a sign of love, mercy, and kindness, contentment. So, can you make someone smile? Also, you can make the 32 smiling, but they don’t open. This is this. When you make someone angry, then someone is like, biting the teeth. Stiskne zuby. Stiskne zuby. And when you are happy, things are open. How automatically the things are functioning in our body. And this energy is in our body. So when we chant AU, akāra, ukāra, makāra, A, U, M. The beginning, the presence, and the future. All three in one: the creator, the protector, and the liberator. Trinity in this ākar, ukar, makar that influences our three nāḍīs, Iḍā, Piṅgalā, and Suṣumṇā. When we chant Aum, the sound, energy, and light awake in the Maṇipūra Chakra, but it also takes the energy from Mūlādhāra and Svādhiṣṭhāna in a positive way. And it goes like three streams, one through the Iḍā, which will create in the whole body a nice resonance vibration. Second, the Piṅgalā will create in each blood cell lightning, and will feed that light and resonance in the heart. And suṣumnā, that is a central nerve, that will fill your entire cidākāśa with resonant sound, which you can hear also, and it goes in the space. This is a technique in Kriya Yoga. We will chant now. You can have your eyes open or your eyes closed. Sit straight. If you sit straight, then energy, sound, and light can easily flow through in my flat. There is an open fire chimney, but the chimney is going like this and like that and like that, and always when the lower pressure is, the smoke comes back. Now, expertise says it should be straight. I learn always. So I was sitting there like this, looking. And energy was not flowing. I said, "Aha!" The technique of the chimney also applies to the spinal column. Also, this is a chimney. It goes from Mūlādhāra till Sahasrāra. We all breathe through three things. We breathe through the nose, we breathe through the mouth, and we breathe through the whole skin. If you have a cotton, natural material, it makes your body easy to breathe. If you have a loose dress, then it is a blessing for your body, to breathe, to expand. And you will see this loose cloth is like an air conditioner when it is very hot. Then you have a perspiring film on your skin, and through the loose dress, the air is passing. Result? Your skin feels cool. If it is cold, then the air is circulating and transmitting the warmth to the whole body. Of course, when it’s very cold, like here today, then you can close with your arms. But let it circulate the air. Everything is breathing. The wall is breathing. That’s why Ayurveda and our ancestors say our house should be built with natural material. This table is breathing, the flower is breathing also, and this flame on the altar is breathing. There is a glass bowl inside. If you put something on it now, the flame will go off. Because there is no oxygen, no breath. Breath is life, and life is breath. Without breath, we cannot live long. All is a question of some seconds or minutes. Now, breathe. We should know how to breathe. After this whole research work, as I told before, every heart likes love. Every heart likes happiness. Every heart likes contentment. Similarly, yogīs have researched the breathing technique, which can give us a long life and a healthy life. So there are three different levels of the breath: abdominal breath, here the lungs breathing, and the chest breath. Those who are breathing only in the chest will have health problems. Will have depressions. Will be nervous. Nowadays, the fashion is to have a tight dress. Especially, ladies. Tight jeans and tight, I don’t know, blouse, blouse,... and they are standing, and the shoes are like this. I can’t go like that. I think these ladies are looking forward to evening, to come home and take shoes off, tight dress off, and breathing here, blowing their chest up. Which is very unhealthy. You see, our ancestors designed a beautiful dress. The beauty of the human when you are properly, nicely dressed. I know many people are looking at the website, but I tell you, when Indian ladies wear the saris, it’s completely different. And when they’re stuck in the jeans, no words. So, whether European, American, Native American, Middle Eastern, East Asian, or from all different countries, they had such beautiful costumes, disappearing, unfortunately. So, those who are breathing only here will have a short life, like a rabbit or a dog. All creatures who are breathing like this will have a short life. Second, we breathe here. This is normally how we are breathing, but the yogī said it’s also not so good. Third is abdominal breath. That your diaphragm begins to feel from down. You have to learn to expand the stomach. And now it’s new fashion. Everybody wants to have no stomach. Standing in front of the mirror and tightening the belt. The stomach is given so that it should be free. Like a pregnant woman. A pregnant woman should not have a tight belt. Should not have tight trousers. So have them loose, dressed like me. I’m looking ever like a pregnant woman, because I look after my stomach. In every aspect, so it has a space to expand. You know how it feels? Therefore, it is said, a man without a stomach is a sky without stars. So it’s a prāṇa. So inhale from the lower part of the navel. If you are wearing jeans and a belt, open the belt. Open the seat, yes, please. Those who are listening, if you want to do it, or you are at home, take off the trousers, yes. One hand on the abdominal muscles, second hand here. Now, slowly inhale. In the stomach. Observe my both hands. Which one will move up first? Exhale first from the chest, then from the stomach. Inhale. Exhale. That’s correct. And if you do wrong, very soon you will get a spine problem. Therefore, learn long, deep breath. Then now, inhale. Keep your eyes open, looking at me. Deep inhale, and then you will follow the vibration of the sound: Iḍā, Piṅgalā, and Suṣumṇā from the navel. Many of you will understand. If you have our book, "Hidden Powers in Humans," described very precisely in ten languages, so be in here. And we will chant "Aum." Now you can close your eyes if you want. Inhale, first in abdomen, then stomach, then chest. Once more. Deep inhale. Peace in your heart. One word: peace. Three times, so all the best. Wish you a very nice afternoon. The next lecture will be in the evening in Prague, which is also on the subject of the Anāhata Chakra, and we will continue. Those who are coming to Prague, see you there. Otherwise, when you are at home at the right time, you can look on your website. All... Dear friends, brothers, sisters, wish you all the best. God bless you. Deep Nārāyaṇ Bhagavān Akī.
