Discovering harmony and peace

A journey within begins by relaxing the body and observing the breath. Contemplate the five elements within. Space exists inside and outside; feel at ease within it. Air, or prāṇa, purifies the body and can remove illness with concentrated will. Inner fire, or agni, balances temperature and burns away toxins. The water element flows through tissues, supplying minerals and expelling impurities. The earth element, the bones, provides a frame. These elements within can become polluted by the external world. Purify them through sāttvic food, yoga postures, prāṇāyāma, and meditation. Body awareness is life awareness; health depends on clean, balanced elements. Bring awareness to any area of pain or illness. Direct breath and the elements—air, fire, space, water—to that area to balance and heal. This self-inquiry meditation can be done seated. Many bodily problems stem from personal mistakes like wrong diet or substances, but they can be repaired through yoga, meditation, and a balanced diet. Make a resolve to heal the body and mind through these elements and practices. Love and protect nature. Decide for a healthy, strong body and a long life.

"Body awareness means life awareness. The body is here, you are here."

"Strive to purify with sāttvic food... Pure quality gives more quality to your life."

Hands beside the body, legs slightly apart. Relax your shoulders and elbows. Relax your hips and knees. Relax your stomach muscles and your facial muscles. Relax the center of your eyebrows. Relax the entire body from the toes to the top of the head, and from the top of the head down to the toes. Simply relax. Feel your breath. Relax the breath and observe it. You know that you are inhaling, and you know that you are exhaling. Relax. Now, contemplate all five elements: ether, fire, air, water, and earth. Feel these five elements within your body. Let us begin with space. The space within your body and the space outside your body. You are in space, and space is within you. Feel comfortable in this space. Feel at ease. It is as if you are flying or floating. And within you is that same space. With your mental power, with your saṅkalpa, purify this inner space. Within this space and outside of it—meaning within your body and outside your body—exists the air, the prāṇa, the air full of oxygen. Outside your body and within it. It harmonizes, coordinates, and supplies oxygen to the inner space. With this prāṇa, with this air, with this energy you receive through breathing, purify your body. If you possess strong willpower and can concentrate properly, you may remove many illnesses from the body. Air is for purification. Now, bring your awareness to the fire, the warmth in your body. Pay attention to the element of fire, to the warmth within. How does your body balance its temperature? Inside and outside, the agni is perfectly balanced. It originates from the digestive fire, the solar plexus, and through the heartbeat, the heart which circulates warm blood. Thus, we cleanse and burn away all toxins and foreign materials in the body. Concentrate to remove those dead cells, to burn them out through your fire, your agni. Now, the water element in the body. With the flow of that liquid, it purifies and supplies all different kinds of minerals, vitamins, and healthy elements that maintain good health. It supplies and produces within the body. It is this water element that purifies everything and expels all impurities. Feel that water element in the body, in each and every tissue, in each and every organ, in the flesh, everywhere. Your body is floating in that liquid. With your willpower, with your prāṇa and prāṇāyāma, with your fire, dhāgnī, give space to everything in the body so it can move and flow freely. You can do this. Concentrate on your inner world. Your inner world is beauty, and from this beauty of your inner world, you can receive outer beauty. And so we come to your fifth element, the earth element. The bones, the solid parts of the body, which keep all four elements balanced within this frame. Try to understand these five elements, and pay attention: how do you keep them pure, or do we pollute our elements? Polluted air, pollution in space, pollution in the water, pollution from burning different materials like plastics and chemicals, etc. You are not burning all this, but you are harming yourself. You are burning yourself, and the purity of the fire. And so the ether, the air, the fire, and the water—all this dwells within your body. No wonder that in this polluted world we are polluting our bodies. Strive to purify with sāttvic food, which Āyurveda suggests we consume. Pure quality gives more quality to your life. Therefore, we practice yoga, which means movements: scientific, balanced, traditional, ancient. Yogis have given us those postures, so to speak, which we have in Yoga in Daily Life. Mantras and meditation. The practice of prāṇāyāma and healthy sāttvic nourishment. We can manage our lives to be happy, healthy, and long. Do not depend on others. Body awareness means life awareness. The body is here, you are here. If the body is not here, you are not here either. We need a healthy body, not a sick one. It all depends on these five elements, to keep them clean and balanced. From the toes to the top of the head, and from the top of the head to the toes—this is called the journey to within yourself. We are floating in this space, which is within us and outside of us. Now, for a while, bring your awareness to that part of your body where you have pain, unpleasant feelings, or some kind of illness in that particular area. Bring your awareness there, and with the breath—inhalation and exhalation—bring your attention within. Perhaps it is pain in the joints, nerve problems, muscle issues, or gland problems, for example, like the thyroid. Bring energy into your thyroid; concentrate inside. Air, fire, space, and water. Imagine that in your thyroid, hormones are balancing. Or focus on the kidneys, or the liver. This is a journey to yourself, into yourself. You can do this meditation while sitting, or as we are doing now, in Ananda Āsana posture. It is a self-inquiry meditation. Everything is manifested within yourself. Anything that happens to your body, except accidents, develops within your body. Relax. It is an endless journey in the physical world of your life. Discover the beauty, the divinity, the harmony, love, and peace within yourself. There are many different problems in the body. Which might you have caused? The wrong diet. The wrong liquids, like alcohol. Or some kind of drug which harmed your organs, harmed your nervous system, and caused imbalance in the body. It is our own mistake, but you can repair it through practicing yoga in your life, self-inquiry meditation, and a balanced sāttvik diet. Yoga and Āyurveda. Tell yourself, "I will utilize, I will follow, and I will act for the well-being of my body, my mind, and my emotions through Yoga in Daily Life and Āyurveda." Now, bring your feelings into your heart and become aware of your inner condition. Make a saṅkalpa: "I will heal my body through the water element, fire element, air element, and space element. I will restore my body to be strong like iron." Subtle pains, like emotional distress, depression, loneliness, etc., you can heal and balance through your mantra, bhakti (devotion), and positive thinking, following the path of non-violence. Love nature, protect nature. That will help you. Make the decision yourself. Decide to make your body healthy and strong, filled with pleasantness and long life. And you will avoid everything that is harmful to your life and your body. And with this... Slowly move your toes and fingers. Close your fists and open your palms. Stretch your legs. Raise your hands above the body. Stretch your hands upward. Stretch the whole body. Point your toes towards your body, stretch your heels out. Do not arch the lower back. Exhale and bring your hands back, parallel to the body. Inhale and raise your hands above the head, stretch your whole body, and exhale. Bring your hands parallel to the body again. Stretch the hands above the body. Feel each and every movement. Place hands beside the body. Coordinate your body with the breath: inhale and exhale. Stretch your hands up on the ground above your head while inhaling. Hold the breath, remain there, and exhale. Bring the hands towards the body. One, one, two. Raise one leg up. Keep the knee straight, as far as you can. The knee should be straight. It’s a colorful picture. Some are wearing black, some green trousers. Different socks, but it is very interesting. One sock is red, and one sock is green. Lower the leg. Perhaps the right one has a different color. Left toe. Left leg up. Again, the same colors, but only one, and legs down. Raise your hands above the head. Place your hands on the ground. Relax. Now raise both legs up. Yes, now it’s the double-ring color. Remain there. Keep your hands on the ground above your head. Knees straight. Raise your head up and look at your thighs. Hands remain down. Look at your thighs. Hands are on the ground above the head. If you don’t understand the language, do not act immediately when I say something. Look at your thighs. See if your thigh is peaceful or trembling. You must bring your thighs to the condition where they begin to shake. Trembling. Out of imbalance. People say Yoga in Daily Life is very slow and boring, so remain there. Head up. Look at your stomach muscles. Hands up. Hold your toes. Knees straight. Head on the ground. Head on the ground. Inner journey, outer journey. Yes. Bend your knees. Hold your knees. Interlock your fingers over the knees. Head on the ground. Press your knees to your body, roll to the left side, and stay there. The exercise we did with holding the legs or raising the legs, head down and hands up, was especially for thyroid problems. And this is more for your gallbladder and liver, also for the kidneys. Slowly roll yourself to the right side. Everyone who understands the language is moving immediately. Now, with the breath: inhale, come to the middle; exhale, to the left; inhale, middle; exhale, right. One, two, three, four, five. One left, two middle, three right, four middle. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. Go ahead. Continue. Very good. In the middle. Hold your knees and swing. Sit up. All of this was for the inner journey. There are two ways: the meditative way or the active way, so they say. Passive or active. That was very fast. Now, bend your knees and hold your feet. Keep your knees together and on the ground. Knees together as much as you can, with knees touching the ground. Hold your feet. Look up, but keep your knees down. Chin up. Now roll yourself to the left side, and then to the right. Slowly, slowly, comfortable left and right. In the middle, it is like this. If we do not practice discipline, then everything is mishmash. So, left one, two in the middle, three right, four middle. One, two, three, four. One, two, three, four. You did nearly nothing. All the time lying down. For one hour you were enjoying lying on your back and stomach, that’s all. Stretch your legs. Turn to one side and sit up. Vajrāsana. So Vajrāsana harmonizes the whole body, the nervous system, and the psychic being. It is one of the very powerful postures to give energy to the body and calmness to the mind. It is also an anti-stress position. And then come to what you call the vīrās. Do you know what a vīra is? So, me. This posture influences your kidney function greatly. It gives strength through the Vajranāḍī. It develops concentration and provides the energy to concentrate. Vīra, do you know what vīra means? Well, if you are a hero, then don’t move, but you are moving too much. Well, it was a nice weekend. I was very happy to see you, and especially the hall is very good, so we can repeat a seminar here from time to time. Thank you. So, I changed the posture, next leg. Also, many thanks to the organizers, Satva Purī and team. Sit on both legs, on your toes. Knees up, only on the toes—also perfect. Organized, balanced, observing our Swami Vivek Purī and his right hand—not left hand, right hand—the Ānandī, though his right hand when she’s sitting down, and he’s up. So, who has more energy on the ground? Who has less energy? Up. So the big personality is on the ground, and the other is higher. And that’s why I am also higher. I need more weight on the hands on the knees. Move the knees together, left and right. Stand on your toes. Very good, hold your knees, hold both your knees, and you should say Ānandoham, okay? And roll, swing back, onto your back, go on your back. Let’s go down, roll forward, backward. Yes. Are you sitting comfortably again?
