Questions and answers from Vep

Maintain conscious distance to preserve your spiritual energy.

Every touch exchanges energy, like a bee transferring pollen between flowers. This exchange can impart impressions or drain vitality. During practice, maintain a space between hands, roughly an arm's length around your body. Sitting on natural materials like a grass mat is preferable to plastic, which may affect your energy field. Modern life exposes you to many energies and radiation. You must protect your core vitality through awareness and natural barriers. Positive relationships allow for touch, but general interaction requires caution. Your accumulated experiences and memories hold energy that must be released. The foundational practices of yoga, prāṇāyāma, and mantra create a protective seal for your being.

"Every touch is sensitive, like a touchscreen telephone. Similarly, touch can take your energy or give your energy."

"You can forgive; forgiving is easier, but forgetting is not."

I have the microphone to address your questions, but please do not ask me about Jupiter or computers. I love computers, but when I talk about them, the computer gets jealous. Four people need to stand to decide the seating arrangement. The people on the right decide to place others on the right, and two behind decide to place them there. So, those sitting very far back are not in an ideal position. They should come a little closer, but not too much. About 40 centimeters is good. For the microphone, about half a meter, more than half a meter—75 centimeters. Anyone who does not know what 72 centimeters is should go back to school. You must maintain about 75 centimeters on every side, in every direction. I will speak about this, so it is better that you keep this distance all around you. You may go and sit under the cedar tree, no problem. You can go there to protect your energy. You should have been told before: "One line to the second line always," as in yoga. But today—not tomorrow—you will do it for the second time. Do you remember? I spoke yesterday about energy and touch, and you have forgotten. I cannot measure and mark everywhere. You should know this distance is roughly the length of your arm from here to here, and then the other arm like this. Yes, and when we practice with our hands, you should not hold hands. There should be a five-centimeter distance, or position yourselves slightly staggered—one person a little in front and one a little back—so your hands are not touching. Every touch is sensitive, like a touchscreen telephone. It is called a touch telephone; you just touch it. Similarly, touch can take your energy or give your energy. When a bee or butterfly takes nectar from one blossom and goes to the next—from an apple blossom to a peach blossom—that peach receives some kind of saṃskāras from the apple. When a pumpkin field has different kinds of pumpkins, they are no longer original. Similarly, with mosquitoes and flies, it is the same with humans. So, when you are doing a ceremony, observe how careful the pundit is. Wednesday and Thursday have passed; three days remain. In these three days, try to purify your energy. Do not take a stranger's energy. But you can touch a tree. A tree does not have negative energy. Nature is great for us, but we must also know which parts and how. Recently, someone was touching and taking a rose flower, and a thorn went into a finger. It caused such a severe infection that we had to go to the hospital. The doctor was nearly ready to amputate, cutting so much here and there. The person could have died. You might say, "Swāmījī, from a rose thorn?" We are not so stupid, but it is true. Does anyone here know of someone this happened to just recently, about a month ago? Who knows? Yes, you know. The sister of Premanand from Salzburg—where is Ambā Devī? She is in the pūjā. So, this is the sister of Premanand from Salzburg. We must deal carefully with everything. Every creature has poison. Humans have more poison than a cobra. If a dog bites you and it goes so deep that the dog's gums contact your blood, within a few days the dog will die. Do you know this? Because it bit. Ask your doctor. Yes. So, our blood is like poison to dogs. If it bites an animal—a pig, cow, horse, or any animal—you will see the animal may die. There are some people whose bite can kill another human, but they are rare. Such a person, who has poison effective on humans, would be kept isolated. But if you do not believe me, I can give you a very direct experience of touch—but do not do this. If you touch a naked electric wire, what happens? Similarly, the touch of others affects you. Many fine cells in your body die; it is poisoned. Many organs, bones, joints—everything. Therefore, in marriage and families, their energy becomes neutralized. According to constellations or astrology, you must choose a person whose nature, behavior, and energy suit yours. Just as we consider blood groups, for spirituality it is very important that you take care of your spiritual energy. If you do not care for it, then the practices you are doing are not very... Are we not online? Oh, I am talking into the air, and it is not going to the whole world. I will continue, and they will know there was a technical mistake. Therefore, when you are here, of course you have your best friends. Your friends are positive; they have the same energy, are on the same level. So, of course, you can shake hands, you can hug—but not hanging on all the time. In yogic practice, when we meditate, it is mentioned and suggested: a kuśāsana. Kuśa is a kind of grass; āsana is a mat made from that grass. We sit on this beautiful meadow; it is a kuśa grass carpet, not just a small one but a large carpet. This is your nature. Many of you have bought it; you should take it home. Whenever you come to a seminar, bring it with you. The plastic mat, called a yoga mat, is a little comfortable, but it is plastic. You know the effect plastic has. Once, our Dr. Śānti—you know Dr. Śānti? She is in the Himalayas. Yes, we are all going to the Himalayas, to Ālakāpurī. We will walk when the saints are marching. We will walk across the Himalayas. Dr. Śānti is organizing for 200 people. It is the first time in history that such a large group of 200 goes at once to such altitude. There, we need to hold each other's hands because if you have strong energy, you must give it to your friend. She conducted an experiment. For this experiment, I need an apple or a fruit. So, it will come. We are going on the 4th of September, and apples are already here. On the 14th of September, we return. We fly from wherever you are; you should be at the airport by 11 o'clock in the morning. We have a deluxe bus, a luxury bus with pushback seats because the Himalayas are so high; they automatically push back. It is about a 25-group bus convoy. We will drive from New Delhi airport to Haridwar, continue to Rishikesh, and stay in a large ashram. There is the beautiful Gaṅgā, with very clean water and a high current. It does not matter how strong a bodybuilder you are or how good a swimmer; do not try to test your capacity. Even an elephant can drown. But you can come to the river; there are steps. You can sit, bathe, pray, and take water. The next morning, or the second day—I do not know the timetable exactly—we will drive continuously for nearly more than 12 hours on a beautiful journey into the Himalayas to Badrināth Purī. We will stay there two or three nights to relax and acclimatize. Then we go further to Saint Sarwar. Oh my, every step is a challenge, but you will be joyful. There is a special herb; you take just a little and keep it under your tongue, and you will have immense oxygen. But do not take everything; leave some for others. For a few days and nights, we will stay under the open sky. There are many rocks, no bathrooms, toilets, or kitchen. But it will be organized with tents by a large company; they will go four days ahead to set up. That will be an amazing experience about Ālakāpurī. Anyway, why did I change the subject? Because of Dr. Śānti. We will return, but you must get a check-up from your doctor—your lungs, your heart. You must run or walk daily and practice fasting. Do not unnecessarily carry extra kilos there. So, the apple has arrived. We need one person. We can take a strong person. She is a very strong girl. You like chocolate? Hold this plastic-wrapped chocolate in your right hand. Your other hand can be down. Okay. I will apply pressure. Oh, a strong girl. Very good. So, plastic—I need plastic with chocolate inside. I am not strong, you know. Yes? Okay. Hold. Different? Yes. Hold. Very good. Thank you. Now, you come. Stand there. Okay. You hold this. Go a little farther. A strong boy comes. Okay, so, this hand. You can go far; you can look that way so people can see your face. Okay, now take the plastic. Very different, no? Okay, thank you. You can have the apple. So, why? What I was talking about: you are sitting on plastic—what you call a yoga mat—carrying it on your back or kidneys. Everywhere you carry your yoga mat, it has the effect of plastic on your body. But you can make a pure cotton cover for it; that is 90% better. So, when you sit on your plastic mat for meditation or prāṇāyāma, you should have your kuśāsana, made from grass. There is a very nice one from India and Nepal, but we also have very nice grass here. The grass should be more than half a meter in height. You take that grass—the stalk, not the leaves—and you can cut it and make a very nice mat. It is excellent for meditation and health, even at home. Now, someone declared something: you know neem powder or neem leaves? If a child cannot sleep peacefully, or you cannot sleep without tablets, put that powder or leaves under your pillow. It is said you will sleep very well. There are many such things in nature. When you sit in meditation or perform prāṇāyāma, you should maintain distance. But perhaps your yoga center only has capacity for 20 people, and 35 are present. Then we should chant mantras so that energy will be preserved. Mantra chanting is a protection, with or without a mālā. So, at this time, it is very important we keep distance. Not only after class—if you go and sit somewhere but then get close again, you lose everything. That is it, so be aware. We must develop and awaken our awareness, to be alert and conscious, knowing what we are doing. In this way, we can save our lives from negative energies in our modern world. Now, near some people's houses or apartments, there are electronic poles for television, mobile phones, or telephones. That pole radiates strongly up to 300 meters. In Udaipur, one of our bhaktas built a beautiful house, and just 15 meters away they installed an electronic pole. Nearby, he had a cow from Jadam. When the cow was there, she would not eat anything, could not sleep, and milk production reduced by 75%. She was hungry but would not eat. They took the cow to the other side of the house; she could eat and relax again. They tried to bring her back; she was unhappy and would not eat. What we call the "smoke of radiation"—50, 60, 70 years ago, there was little radiation, only radios. Telephones had cables. But now, it is very, very much. That is called the smoke. We all carry telephones in our pockets. Someone said, "Please, I am not a scientist," and I cannot say if I have conducted an experiment or not. But nowadays, children are not born healthy. Oṁ Namaḥ Śivāya, Oṁ Namaḥ Śivāya... Oṁ Hara Hara Bodhi, Namaḥ Śivāya. Only doctors and hospitals know how many children are born with problems—arms, eyes, many things. This is due to pesticides and so much radiation. Now seeds are manipulated; you always have to buy new seeds. You can grow them once; a second time they may grow, but only grass, no crops. Or in some cases, maybe a second time, but then no more. Also, the food we eat—grains and such—with pesticides and seed manipulation, you cannot have more than one or two children. It is a big problem. Now, how to protect? You cannot sleep in your house or flat, and we cannot always move; we are not so rich as to buy a new flat. So, there are some protections. Once we have what is called a bioprotector. But the best would be to use any kind of grass—but not a grass to which you are allergic. If you are allergic to that grass and dust, it is like trying to come out of the frying pan and falling into the fire. You can put a dry grass mat under your bed, cover it, and sleep there. You will sleep very well. You can have your plastic mat, but over it place a grass mat with a cotton cover, and also your pillow. Return to the natural way. I am trying to make what is called cow dung plaster. They researched it in Germany, and many people now order that kind of cow dung. They researched the Indian cow, which has proper horns, a mark like a Śivaliṅga on the neck, and is not fed artificial grains. Many in the West perform Agnihotra using the dung of such a cow, dried in the hot sun. When they perform Agnihotra in the morning, many infections go away, and it creates a beautiful atmosphere. Yes, there are many benefits. You can try. I do not want to bring my Indian cows here; they would never forgive me. It is so cold and snowy; they would say, "Swāmījī, I am homesick." But we have that. We are bringing it now, of course, testing everything. It is not only cow dung but a mix with a kind of mud and grass dust. It is so pleasant; your flat will be very nice—warm in winter and cool in summer. Cement and marble are dead materials; air does not pass through. But this dung plaster allows air to pass. So, when you come to India, you will see and experience it. You can put it under your bed; you will have such sleep that you will be very happy—not lazy and tired, but more fresh. Similarly, what I want to convey about body-to-body touch: you should be aware. How much foreign energy is in your body? You never know what illness it may cause: cancer, liver, kidneys, blood, skin, joints—many things. Yoga is the science of the body. First, we must maintain our body, then come prāṇāyāma, mantras, and meditation. You can seal yourself like a bulletproof jacket through your prāṇāyāma, yoga, and systematic daily āsanas. It is great. Our system, which we have all developed together over the last 46 years, we have not had to change because it does not need changing. It is scientific, and now these books are used more and more. Our Indian Prime Minister spoke and practiced on the International Day of Yoga. He said it should be very simple and easy so everyone can practice. That is what he did, to our surprise. It was our sarvahitā āsanas. We do not need to hang from a tree, one leg here and the other there. When the wind comes, we should not do that. It should be comfortable, balanced, easy, and effective. So, whenever we have the opportunity, keep a little distance from other bodies so you receive good prāṇa. How many energies do you have? We were talking yesterday about ceremonies. They said they want to perform ceremonies for a partner. The Panditjī asked, "Which partner? Which husband? How many husbands have you had?" Not on paper—that is bureaucracy—but the relation you had with someone was already like being married. That energy, that behavior, went into your body, emotions, mind, memory, thoughts, dreams, etc. You may not tell anyone, but you cry within. Even you may not know. It is Devjān's song: "Oh, bird of the caves. A bird in the caves. Nobody knows your pain. You are crying inside. Nobody listens, nobody understands." Why does that happen? Because you have not released that energy. This pūjā we are doing will somehow help. Therefore, be careful. We will do more. Do you have any questions? We have only about seven minutes left. No questions? Yes, give her or him the microphone. If I cannot answer, then you will have to answer. Her question is: Can we hug children? Of course, you can hug children and your good friends. Children have very positive energy; your good friends have positive energy. The question is: Can we help another person by touching or hugging someone who has negative energy, by giving that person energy? Yes, you can, but you must be strong enough. You have to be like a doctor. A doctor treats a person with a dangerous infection but is very careful. So you should also be careful. There is something called Reiki, Reiki healing. Reiki comes from Reiki. Okay. I also give blessings, no? But sometimes I get an electric shock-like sensation. It will not happen if you keep practicing yoga daily, prāṇāyāma, positive thinking, and mantras. All right, and I wish it will be good. It is part of our culture to shake hands in the workplace, etc. How can we escape or avoid shaking hands positively? Positively. And wash your hands. Wash your hands. Yes, because your friends do not shake hands with anger and hate. It is friendly. In the past, there was no handshake; there was a greeting like this or like that. There was a reason they did not shake hands: it can cause infections. If someone offers a hand and you do not give yours, it seems unfriendly. So we must somehow survive. Or go to the Himalayas, under a cave. Nobody is there to shake hands. Yes, Vijay, your camera is not working? Yes, please. It is good karma. You are giving positively, not receiving. You are giving. But when you come home, you should clean yourself, wash, do prayers and mantras. That is okay. That is called seva, service. The question was about nurses who work in hospitals; they want to help others. Yes, this is service. In this way, no one takes away negative energy because they give energy to others. This is a blessing. But when you go home, wash your hands well and practice mantras and prayer. Good. All the best. Is somebody standing there? Speak loudly, please. That pūjā was only for ancestors. There can be other pūjās as well. But I think the best pūjā is to rid yourself of your memory. That is it. No pūjā can help as long as you have not forgiven. You can forgive; forgiving is easier, but forgetting is not. That was the question: The pūjās we have done so far were for ancestors, but Swāmījī also mentioned pūjās for freeing ourselves from the energy of old partners. Yes, there are such pūjās, but the best pūjā for this purpose is to forget. It is easy to forgive, but difficult to forget. Practice your mantra for this.
