Stress comes from emotional problems

Yoga is the science of body, mind, and soul, a practical path to wellness and relief from stress. Modern life creates imbalance through poor nourishment, lack of movement, and technological convenience that erodes physical health and human connection. Wellness is an inner feeling of happiness and balance, not a temporary state from a spa or retreat. Stress arises from emotional problems, work, and familial disconnection, exacerbated by an education system that provides knowledge but fails to cultivate human nature, humility, or gratitude. Yoga offers practical techniques of āsana and prāṇāyāma to be done daily, restoring health, mental clarity, and inner peace by balancing the body's subtle energies and calming the mind.

"Tons of theory is nothing compared to a gram of practice."

"The best education for human life is from the parents."

Good morning once more, all dear brothers and sisters. Yoga, wellness, and anti-stress. Three things. Which should I take? Yoga. Yoga is a science of body, mind, and soul. Yoga is not just movements, what we call āsanas and prāṇāyāmas, but yoga means life. Whatever you do in your life, think it over and balance your body, your mind, and your awareness. This morning I read one article, and that was very perfect for this morning to give some lecture. Tons of theory is nothing compared to a gram of practice. Some philosophers in Europe said this. Theory gives us inspiration. If we understand, we will come to the practice. If not, then we cannot gain anything. Because through the theory, you get that information, but it is said, use it. So, through the theory and inspiration, come to the practical life. If you don’t come to the practical way, then your theory, you have said, use it or lose it. So this morning, there was a subject of the kidneys. Yesterday we spoke about different organs in the body and exercises. They told him why the young generation now has problems with kidneys, diabetes, heart, liver, etc. What is wrong? It is the same body, the same human, but why? We were healthy, our kidneys and everything were healthy because we used to drink milk, or buttermilk, or bread and butter. And good fruits. Now, what are we doing? Junk food. We are nowhere, only biting something and looking at these miraculous things. Well, this technology is good and also not good. The master said in the school, "Boys and girls, if you have nothing in your brain, don’t worry, you have it in your hands." And there we are going in such a way. That way of living, that way of our life, brings humans into imbalance. Previously, when we used to call someone from the next room, we would get up, go to the next room or next house, and come back. That was already a movement. But now, we just call, "Please, can you come here?" So we lost that movement. We were going to buy vegetables or something from this, what is called your... Salimar. Salimar. It’s about one kilometer from here. You will go one kilometer and come back again; it’s two kilometers of walking. But no, we take a car from here, we go around different streets, and we park in the wrong place. We go to buy something, we come back, and the car is towed away, and we have stress. So our way of life has changed very, very much. In this, now we come to the yoga. Many people have problems with being overweight, and the cause is that the nourishment is not good. Second, there is no movement, so all our inner organs are suffering very much. Our house pet has the same problems and the same habits. If you have a rabbit at home, if you can’t, don’t give it food for one or two days, that rabbit will be so tired and have no energy, it can’t move. But take your house pet rabbit and the forest rabbit who didn’t get enough to eat somewhere. But see how that rabbit is running, how its muscles are, how its body is in good shape, and the rabbit which is at home is lost. So we can compare our body, our way of life, living, also the pets or other animals outside, or people who live in the forest, in the mountains, and how much movement they have. The word "wellness" comes from the feeling in your body of being comfortable and mentally feeling happy, a sense of well-being, that you have a feeling of happiness and balance. Now, the word wellness has come to spa, and thanks to God, the spa, we go there and for a few hours, we feel very nice. We come home, and we feel very nice. But how long? You cannot always go in that box to feel the wellness. But there are some in the forest or in the countryside, where we go for a walk. We go for a retreat. That retreat is known as a wellness retreat. But also, when you come home, one day or two days later, you are in the same position again. So we are more or less torturing our body. Yoga is that kind of technique, āsanas, prāṇāyāmas, you can do anywhere. In your small sleeping room, beside your bed, you can do your exercises. Every day, not one day. After three months, our body will be completely different. Our organs, our joints, our muscles, then our concentration and thinking will change in a positive way. They stress. Stress comes from emotional problems. Now, emotional problems, which have many different causes. Also, about your business, there is your emotion, and you try to work and work hard, but you can’t get what you should or ought to get. You are working, how about 15 hours, because it’s your company, but the output is not that much. That is also emotion, stress, stress, work, work; that’s called a workaholic. So, how to come out from that stress? There are many, many causes of stress, also about eating, about your children. They don’t study properly, they don’t go to their school, or they are already 15, 16 years, 17, 18 years, and they don’t follow you. At all, there is stress, many, many things. What is the condition of the children nowadays? It is completely destroyed. And if you can’t give the work, something for the children to do, they will say, "No, don’t give the work to the children, don’t do this and that." Stress, children are in stress, parents are in stress, teachers are in stress, the whole society is in stress. We need to teach the best education, not in the schools, not in the university. The best education is with the parents’ lips. But now, you have no lap for the children. You have a laptop, the difference. So when you take a laptop in your hand and your child is standing and looking at you, that is very rare. Some mother or father will keep the laptop away and take the child on the lap. The best education for human life, for the human, is from the parents. No one can give you that education. The kindergarten, the school, the college, the universities—this all is for your stomach. All for this earning money, and this and that. Of course, we learn many things which are very useful for our life and everything. Our education and our science have developed a lot. But not that human nature. We have to make our children human. And what is that human? The nature of the human, what is that? There is no humility. Because now, when I was in America, they gave me an interview in the newspaper, and they asked me a question, "Swāmījī, nowadays people say, ’Why did I say thank you?’" So, when someone tells you thank you there, they will not say thank you. Here, New Zealand is much, much better. You say, "Thank you," they say, "Yes, thank you." But there, we’ll tell you, you say, "Thank you," they say, "Mm-hmm." Yes, really, mm-hmm. And when you come into the shop and say, "Good morning," mm-hmm. Yeah, they say, "What, what, what means?" Isn’t it? Second, why should I say thank you? And why? The second thing they asked me, and it was about eight years ago. Another thing is, why should I be nice to others? Why should I be good to you? Really, it is not a joke. So, there is this question: why should I be good to others? So, this kind of education is like we are a computer. The computer will not say thank you. That’s it. And if you say to the computer, "Thank you," the computer will say nothing to you. But the human will say, "So your mother, your father, they give you the education, the human education." To make the human a human, divine, great, of course, we have to go to school, to university, and we have to learn more. But be humble. So there is stress, suffering, suffering. One comes to a couple, and after a few years, they don’t like that boy. Or a few years is too far; it’s ages. After one or two weeks, then say, "Okay, bye-bye, I don’t like you." That’s it. So stress is coming from them because people cannot find inner peace. So, nothing we can get from outside. If then we get from outside from the nature—beautiful nature, mountains, ocean, the river flow, the trees, the fruits, the animals—that is nature. But where is human nature? That is lost in that education. Now, I’m sorry to tell you something about your New Zealand airlines. Air New Zealand. Air New Zealand. When they take off, before that, they speak about safety instructions. And it is in such a way, nobody will understand if they are really giving an instruction for safety or a joke. Suddenly, have ice cream or jump in the water. Oh, wait a moment. Oxygen. What is that? We people who cannot understand English, for example, they don’t know what is happening. And it is a very serious point for security. But this is fun. I write many times, but they don’t answer anything. So, I hope you should put it in the newspaper. Yeah, or suddenly, three years ago, they were all sitting in bikinis on the beach, and they suddenly said, "Oh, we should take our oxygen masks." So, where is the beach in Miami? And how is this? What is the connection between safety instructions? It should be like that, so everyone can understand without language. The indication should be very clear. So this is like that the human life has become unusual, what one is acting. Yoga, of course, has also become like that. You know, I am coming from the tradition of yoga, from my life, from childhood. Like these little children sitting there, also learning about yoga. But there are some people, well, thanks to the Indian Prime Minister, he brought the words, and it’s called the International Day of Yoga. So it makes everyone so free that everyone begins to make a business. So it’s not a joke. It’s called Vīṇā Yoga. Did you hear about that? So Vinyāsa Yoga means you come to yoga class. And they said, "Oh, please, like in first class on an aeroplane, they serve you water, juice, and wine." So they give you the glass of wine, you drink, go change your dress, you come to the classroom, again you get something, now lie down, relax. And some person said, "Can I have one glass more, please?" This is not second. There is another yoga; it’s called naked yoga. And they said, "It is in the Himalayas, in India. The yogīs, they have no dress." They are naked, and they make yoga. That is the best yoga. And so they are all doing naked yoga. In Europe they said, "F-kaka." You know what is F-kaka? Yes. So on that beach, you go swimming, and you are not allowed to have a single cloth on your body. It doesn’t matter, man or woman. They all go completely without any dress. That’s called FKK, free culture, body culture. Well, it doesn’t matter; we were born also as it is. But there was also something still, anyhow. But we should not make a joke out of anything. So yoga is something which can help our body to bring it into a healthy condition and wellness, with happy feelings and without stress. Now, we had yesterday’s try, and the day before yesterday also, and I tell you how to bring the stress away. There are many things, but they are in our brain. And so there is one technique of prāṇāyāma that improves our memory. And many of us in this age, memory is going down and down. Second, people have problems like cancer, brain cancer, and also the problem of stress. So this prāṇāyāma brings you to release that tension from the brain, the circulation, the better circulation in the brain and on those nerves which are very fine, very, very fine. We have 72,000 nerves in our body, and that kind of prāṇāyāma which creates it brings, with the vibration, the blood circulation further. And so we can try, you can try now, it becomes a practical way, so. Please, use these two index fingers. If you have artificial long nails, then please don’t put them in your ear, as you can harm your ear. Then you have to just press it sideways. So, when we take the index finger inside, then don’t push in, but just close with the tip of the finger inside. Now, we will inhale, and inhale first from the navel, from the abdomen. It goes like this, then up. So, we feel the air completely, from the diaphragm down until up. Then we will exhale with one sound, a proper sound. Immediately you will feel that your stress is gone, immediately. And beautiful vibration sound in the brain, it means the both hemispheres are balancing. If you put your hand here and speak something, let’s say, "Om, Om," you will feel complete in one day. And if you say something, let’s say, "I am going today for swimming, I am going today for swimming, I am going to the park." Where do you feel the vibration? In both hemispheres, or in one hemisphere, or is there very little vibration in our brain? You were in the wrong position. So, we put these fingers here, and we try to sit straight, and we will say, "Inhale from the abdomen." Fingers out. Now, this time, try to bring more humming sound and analyze which part of your head has more vibration and which part of the head doesn’t have that much vibration or is equal. So, please, go ahead. Five times. So, if you don’t mind me asking, who felt complete balance on both sides? Both sides? Equal? And who felt more on the right side? The right side, okay. And who felt the left side? Okay. So, the more who feel the right side is okay, very good. But you have weakness towards the left hemisphere, and it means there is less circulation and some blockage in the fine nerves, and that is how sometimes in old age one has what we call a brain hemorrhage, because it’s a blockage of this side. So again, once more, now we will do, we are trying to bring the energy into our whole brain, and how our memory will awaken again, our memories, and the dreams will become very clear and good dreams, harmonious dreams, and not complications. So now, both hands hold together like this and put it here, not like this here, and go ahead five times with the sound, the humming sound. Hands down. Did you feel the moving vibration, one side more and then going to the other side, harmonizing together? Did you feel that? So this is, it is just an experiment now, what we are doing. If you do, let’s say, for one month, then you will realize how brilliant your thoughts and your memories are again. So you will be, how to say, like a very young person, like 10, 15 years. Yes. So, what you have to do with these fingers, like this, and only five times. After two or three hours, again five times. Slowly, slowly, training, training, training. And if those who have some sound, always an unpleasant sound in the mouth, that will be removed. So once more, hands down, close your eyes and relax your whole body. Just relax the whole body. How do you feel in your brain? That’s called wellness. Some kind of pressure is gone. Some kind of stress is gone. Just relax the whole body. Relax your legs. Relax your thighs. Relax your ankle joints. Relax your back muscles, stomach muscles. Relax your shoulders. Relax your neck. And deep inhale and exhale, raise your hands up above your head, stretch your hands up and close your fists, rotate and bring your hands down. The second exercise is also for the same thing, for your well-being, getting rid of the stress and feeling better in your head. So, now, you have to sit on the floor, if you can, in Vajrāsana. There are three nāḍīs, nerves: Iḍā, Piṅgalā, Suṣumṇā. These are the three nāḍīs which balance our whole brain activities and other nerves. But there is another one which is called Vajra Nāḍī. Vajra means very strong, like iron, Vajra Nāḍī. Vajra Nāḍī is like the roots for a tree, a big tree, a strong tree; that tree is balanced and kept stable with the roots. And this Nāḍī is responsible for our immunity in the body. It’s very pleasant to feel this Nāḍī, and you are already sitting on that Nāḍī, and you feel your legs, your body, your spine, your intestines, everything. Yeah, so you are sitting there. The Vajra Nāḍī from both sides, the big toe and second toe, from left and right, both sides. So many times, many people, even now, are doing a kind of sandal with a hook, a wooden hook for the sandals, and hanging it between, or holding it between, the big toe and the second toe. And this is the part of the Vajranāḍī. Your hands on the thighs. If you have a problem with your ankle joints or your knees, please don’t do it. Now, slowly raise your hands up. So, when we are raising our hands up, Iḍā, Piṅgalā, and Suṣumṇā—all these three nāḍīs—are joining our both hands and the spinal column. Of course, there is a sensation in our palms because the blood circulation is going down. It feels like a sensation, but that’s very good. And slowly, slowly bend forward, place your hands on the ground, and touch your forehead to the ground. Touch your elbows on the ground. Relax your elbows. If you have some difficulty, you can hold your knees a little bit apart. So it is easier for you to come to your head down to the ground. Let it touch your buttocks to your heels. Try to relax. You can part your knees more so it’s comfortable, or you can come down. Touch your forehead to the ground and feel that energy which is flowing from the Vajranāḍī till our head, the brain. It’s supplying more blood towards the head. All the jñāna indriyas are near the head. Relax. Of course, if you feel discomfort, you can come up. If you feel well, then just relax in this position. All the nerve systems along the spinal column, the spinal column is stretching. Now, support your hands on the ground for more balance, and slowly raise your head up and come up, please. Hands above the head, and hands on the knees. Remain there, relax, just relax. If you feel discomfort, you can take another posture, sit in another position; otherwise, remain as it is. Relax, relax. Fine, open your eyes. If you want to sit in another posture, take another position. The other exercise, an āsana called Khaṭu Praṇām, many of you can do, many may not; if it is the first time, you just observe. You can sit on the chair if you want, or remain on the ground. If someone doesn’t need a chair, then please remove it. So now head to the altar, legs this side, lie down.
