The Navratri festival
Today is the first day of Navarātra, the holy nine days dedicated to the worship of the Divine Mother in her nine forms, and the start of the new year.
We perform Kalaśa Sthāpanā, inviting Devī to reside in our home for nine days. Each day has a specific Devī and mantra. Worship all feminine beings during this period, as they embody Śakti, the divine power. This power exists within everyone, men and women, and is essential for success against negative forces. The stories in the Durgā Saptaśatī describe the eternal struggle between devas and rākṣasas, where Śakti intervenes when the gods cannot succeed. Śiva, Brahmā, and Viṣṇu are also worshipped. We are human, but our inner nature may be divine or demonic. The festival is ancient, dating back to the Vikramāditya era. We must strive for purity. In these times, support those in need through service and charity.
"In these nine days, all who are masculine and feminine—all these feminine beings—we shall worship them."
"Śakti means strength. You have the śakti; it means you have that power in you."
