Earth and Ocean

The sanctity of earth is fundamental. Holy sites are reclaimed after long struggle, their restoration a collective act of devotion. The earth itself is the primal mother. All beings are born from and return to the earth. Touch the earth daily; walk barefoot to connect with this maternal energy. The five elements constitute existence, with prāṇa and consciousness arising from this foundation. Honor the place of your birth, for it is written upon the earth. Ultimately, we must become one with nature, respecting all life that springs from it.

"Where a divine being was born, that Mother Earth is very, very holy."

"Never, never forget where your birthplace is—the country and the place where your mother gave you birth or brought you onto this earth."

For many years after the Mughals came to India, people were given the choice to convert or be killed. Holy temples were destroyed and mosques were erected in their place. One such temple was the Dvādaśa Jyotirliṅga in Gujarat. It too was destroyed, though efforts were made to reclaim it. This is the place associated with Bhagavān Rāma, from a time over one hundred thousand years ago. A palace there was also destroyed. The temple was demolished and a mosque built. For many, many years, Hindus endeavored to regain this site, navigating a complex political system. Finally, after a very long time, the Supreme Court has now permitted its restoration. Our Prime Minister, Mr. Modiji, is undertaking this work, despite those who oppose it and seek to create problems. This coming December, on the fifth day, the foundation will be laid. They have seen inside the many palaces of Bhagavān Rāma; everything inside is visible. Now the foundation is being made anew. Millions of Hindus are contributing, making the foundation with large silver bricks. They wish to take a little earth from sacred places—from your homes, from any temple. Just now, I was speaking with people who came from very far, from near where the new temple will be. They sent a message saying, "Swāmījī is here," and went to collect sacred dust. They took it from my birthplace, from Om Ashram, from the Dvādaśa Jyotirliṅga site, from our Holy Gurujī’s birthplace at Nīpāl Ashram, from Khatu Mahāprabhujī’s birthplace where he lived, and from Kailāśāsana and Jayapurāsana. I was in a lecture, but they said, "We come from very far, from Kāśī." As I spoke, I saw the whole place. They asked, "Where are you sitting now, Swāmījī? We would like to meet the mind. We are sitting and will take the dust." Thus, our entire ashram has become very holy. Let us sing a bhajan. Which one? This one is beautiful. O Veda Purāṇa Meghate Guru Caraṇam Meharasat Tiratah. O Veda Purāṇa Meghate Guru Caraṇam Meharasat Tiratah. Voh Veda Purāṇa Meghate Vah Uttama Jijñāsuhate. Vah Uttama Jijñāsuhate Voh Vimalaniramenate. Voh Vimalaniramenate Vaha Anubhava Baniyate, Voh Satya Viveka Batate, Vaha Anubhava Baniyate, Voh Satya Viveka Batate. Manābhachita Ānandapate... Vosathya Svarūpalākate, Vosathya Svarūpalākate, voh jīvana mukta patate, pīr janā māranā nahī̃ āte... Guru Charanam Meharasat Tiratahe, Voh Veda Purāṇame Gaate.... Voh Veda Purāṇa Meghate... Guru Charanam Meharasatatiratahe, Voh Veda Purāṇam Meghate... Śrīdhī Pāhārikā Guṇagate Śrīdhī Pāhārikā Guṇagate Svāmī Śiva Nañjimanābhate Pīrāṇa Deva Nahi Dhyāte Svāmī Śiva Nañjimanā Bhate Pīrāṇa Deva Nahi Dhyāte Guru Caraṇam Meharasat Tirat Goveda Purāṇam Ghaṭ Vuru Caraṇam Me Arasatatiratahe Vedā Purāṇa meṅ gatahe, Vedā Purāṇa meṅ gatahe... Voh Veda Purāṇam Megate Guru Caraṇam Meharasatatiratahe... Voh Veda Purāṇam Megate. This bhajan is very beautiful. You have learned and sung it many times, and its translation is very good. The meaning aligns perfectly with what has been brought from India—from the holy place where God Rāma was worshipped, where he was married, and where he was born. That is truly where God Rāma was. You know Rāma and his three brothers, and Sītā, and also Bhagavān Kṛṣṇa. The place where Kṛṣṇa was born was also very hard to preserve. It is a great place, like Bethlehem in the church where Jesus was born. It does not matter what people think, or which country. Where a divine being was born, that Mother Earth is very, very holy. Where you were born is also written on Mother Earth. You were born here. Your name, your energy, everything is given and recorded on Mother Earth. Today, we often do not know our exact birthplace; it is in a hospital. We do not know the specific place within the hospital. They simply deliver the child, clean it, and then it goes away. Of course, a hospital provides safety. Out of a hundred births, perhaps one has difficulties. Sometimes, not only the child but the mother may also die. So it is good to have safe conditions for childbirth. Unfortunately, I do not wish to elaborate, but in many countries—perhaps not Austria, which is very nice, or maybe in Czech, but certainly in others, and now even in what we call the holy country of India—doctors sometimes claim complications necessitate a caesarean section because it costs more money. They may say, "No, it's a complication, the fetus is dying," and so on. This is another issue. At least we can say our birth was there, and the place we were taken to from the hospital is our home. That last place we came from is significant. It is said that if a woman gives birth on an airplane, America says that child gets an American passport. You may also ask for your own country's passport. America deserves respect and care. Many countries have many good things. But it is said: never, never forget where your birthplace is—the country and the place where your mother gave you birth or brought you onto this earth. It is always they who give birth to the child, clean it nicely, and place it on the earth. Of course, now you may have no direct earth because your mother gave birth on the tenth floor. There is no earth, but at least think that your floor is your earth. There are two things: birth on the earth, and when a person dies, the body should return to the earth. Please put your parents, or anyone, on the earth. It means God, the sky, the Brahmalokas, gave that to the earth. Mother Earth is there. The father is there, and the mother is here, and that Mother Earth will also say, "Please keep my child there." This is very, very important. Not only humans, but all beings are born on the earth or in the water—yes, water in the mother's body, or eggs that open on the earth or in water, or in trees. But when they die, they return to the earth. So our Mother Earth is holy earth. Holy Mother. Animals may not know conceptually, but they feel it. They have their paths. On highways, signs indicate animals are crossing, and sometimes bridges or tunnels are built for them. Animals are born and can stand quickly—within a year, two months, or one month. Many, like deer and tigers, are on their legs immediately after birth. But can humans get up and walk immediately? Your father got up at that time? Anyhow, we will not go so far. It is said we come from the earth and we go into the earth. That is everyone. God gave five tattvas. Among these, the first is earth, the second is prāṇa. After prāṇa comes our capacity to move, think, etc. Then, very important, is thinking. That is in our body. Then we think, and that is in our body or beyond, what we call vijñāna—jñāna. That jñāna exists in every animal. Yesterday during prayer and satsaṅg, I went a little over time, and Devpurījī said, "I will not wait for you, boy." So I quickly stopped and said, "Praṇām, praṇām, okay, it's good." In that praṇām, we were thinking about what we can do with our mind. The mind may go back and forth, but inner, in the hṛdaya kamal, in the heart, that is very important. There resides what we call Vijñāna. That is Bhagavān Śaṅkarācārya. There is a nice little book about this... both are too big. In it, it is written very nicely. That is jñāna. So jñāna is very, very important. For any animal, when a deer's baby turns left and right, gets up after falling, finds balance in its legs immediately—that spinal segmentation and prāṇa activation is jñāna. It develops further: where to sit, where not to sit. We sit where we can hide, like birds or snakes. There are different creatures; some are only born at night, die at night, and move at night. This is different, but still they are on earth. They may come from water, but will again return to earth. That water is also mother, and the ocean is father, and earth is mother. This is one of the biggest understandings for us. Others are very difficult to know. I tell you, if possible, touch the earth every day. If you live on the tenth floor with no earth, you can bring some earth or keep plants, but touch it. It means you are touching your mother. Walking barefoot a little is very healthy—walking on earth without shoes and socks. It means touching Mother Earth. In our garden, we can go to the vegetable garden, but please do not do wrong things. If the gardener says, "Touch this, don't pull that out," or if you begin to eat something bad, the gardener will tell you, "Please go out." You can walk there. Of course, we should be aware of weather, hot and cold. When snow is here, if you walk for half a minute, it will burn. It is cold, but then it feels like fire. So water and fire are together; cold and hot are together. If we can do something like this, it is very good. Touch the earth, but please avoid places where poison or powder has been sprayed. Mother Earth will say, "My child, I will heal you again." Otherwise, it is good to walk by a river if there is sand. There are many things. You can bring earth home from a forest or hills—five to ten kilos—put it in an earthen pot, not plastic, and let it dry. Just touch it for a minute or two. That will be great. Or make an area of one or two square meters, bring this earth inside with some beautiful stones, and walk on it. People might call it acupressure, but it is the Mother Earth. Now, can you see the value of our Mother Earth? She is also our mother who gave us birth. She will feel it till her last breath, whether she is good to you or not. Perhaps some are not good, or are mentally unwell. The mind is always disturbing. Do not be overly focused on the mind. You must be very careful. Sometimes the mind can give you problems. In the beginning, not, but later, maybe. You might go, steal money, and then the mind is away. Then it will get you. Therefore, we have to be very careful. So, this is the second point: if you cannot find earth, then the earth itself is the mother. Is a tree a mother or a father? In your language, in your country, what is it? We say this tree is mother. The prāṇa energy is the father, but this is the mother. The father is strong for protection. Inside, it is the mother, and this is protecting. I always try to touch a tree when I walk. In big cities, many governments plant nice trees along streets. There are two benefits: while going, you can just touch it, and second, your dog may use it. That is also okay. We are here in this world. Now, what is prāṇa? Our air. Beautiful. There are the kośas: prāṇamaya kośa, manomaya kośa, vijñānamaya kośa, ānandamaya kośa. The mind is the best, temporarily. Then it goes long and is always in the front. Your mind will not go back; it is so quick that nobody can go behind you. I tell you always: I speak only half a word and your mind is already there. Sometimes when people are talking—in families, your husband wants to say something, your father wants to say something—and between them, your wife or mother interjects. It is not like that, and that can... so he says, "Let me talk." That is called the mother's power. What men do, they should do. He looks left and right, and sometimes children say, "Mother, please, let Father speak." She says, "What should he speak?" That's it. Mostly women, because women are the energy, the fire. Men are cool. But this is the next thing, okay? Men can be very lazy. The big lion, the female gets up. The lion says, "Go and bring some food." So the female runs and brings it. When she cannot, then he comes. Or when she makes the hunt, she is still holding it. The lion does not say, "I will hold it." No, he begins to eat. Yes, that's it sometimes. Sometimes when we are talking, if we do not make a joke, you will not hear my lecture. That is why I always say it, and it is true. Even in driving: when husband and wife are in the car, sometimes the man is driving. I have seen many from our ashram where the wife says, "Give me the key," and so on. The husband is driving, but she says, "Stop," or "Take care, someone is driving behind." Many times, on the front of a car it is written, "Darling, I know driving." Really? And she says, "Because of me." I know so many human men are called "fend off." Okay, that's good, like me too. They are all telling something before me. So I said, "Okay, please let us eat." Coming at all, men sometimes... so it is. Husband and wife is a very good relationship. The wife is very simple. When the husband speaks, she just looks. When they are married, then she says, "I have... you sit down," because now she is married and he cannot run away. Yes, I have had many experiences here and in Czech. One boy came, very nice, working for Swāmījī. He had two or three girls, I think, long ago in 1976 maybe. There are three generations now. He was very nice, washing my car and so on. After he married, on the third day he said, "Either me or Swāmījī. I will not go there." And it happened so. This is human nature. Even animals are like this. How many females die? Tigers or lions? It is okay. But the male, he does not want to; he will kill others because he is the king. He is always looking, always getting up. The others say... anyhow, this is the joke: good and not good. This is my tree, and my tree is so peaceful. Everything is good. Touch the earth, touch the tree, the leaves, the flowers. The best would be not to break flowers, but what can we do? Sometimes it happens. Jain sadhus will not cut flowers, not use them in malas or on the altar. In the garden, it is good, yes, that is God, because this is life, and it becomes beautiful life. We cut it. A flower is male or female, or neutral, let us say. Anyhow, this feeling of energy is in all five elements. Finally, from these elements, what is that? The vastu, the kośas: annamaya, prāṇamaya, manomaya, vijñānamaya, ānandamaya. Prāṇa is the last among these, but in this prāṇa we can go wrong, or we can continue to the fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth level. We go to other heights. Please read "Hidden Powers in Humans: Kuṇḍalinī and Chakras." We have to become one with our nature. Also, eat more vegetables, not animals. Many times people say, "Then why are you cutting and eating trees? Why are you eating fruits?" It is said that when a fruit ripens and falls down, then you can eat it. But the seeds should be given back to the mother. The fruit is the mother, and the seed is the father. Give the seeds back to the mother. There are many, many things. What I want to say today is that we all are coming automatically to that place—meaning the earth where there is a holy place. Wherever you are now, here in this country, even if there is a Cross of Jesus somewhere in the forest, on the way to your farms, or a statue of the Holy Mother, they are very, very good. So, my dear, let us today feel this, our earth. I do not know if it is Brahma Loka or not. Someone once said, "Gurujī, please, can you tell me, do you know heaven? Where is the Brahma Loka, Gurujī? Can you show me, Gurujī?" One day Gurujī said, "Okay, you die, then I come back again, and you will see Brahmaloka." "Yes, Gurujī, that's great." So he died. Gurujī said, "Hari Om." He was always asking this. And there, he cannot come back. So Gurujī said, "Headache is finished." Do not ask too much. Otherwise, Gurujī can send you somewhere—of course, with good things. Then go to the Cosmic Self and just repeat your mantras. In the Cosmic Self, you have no mala, but you will say, "Where is good death? There is no tree, no fruits, no hate, no fire. Where should I go?" You are in the cosmic cell. Tak, dobre, ano, perfect. That is it. Now it is enough. We are hungry. Thank you. This was about God Bhagavān Rāma. Share this more with everyone on that day when the foundation for God Rāma will be laid everywhere in the world. Wherever you are, you should light a lamp with oil, a candle, or any other light. They will announce the time. That night, we should also keep a light burning. There should be light for 24 hours. Please write a letter to the countries where our ashrams are. List them: how many ashrams and which countries? We will write how many people practice yoga in daily life. If you wish, you can mention my name. We will give this and send it there. Yes? Yes. Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām. Rādhe Śyām, Rādhe Śyām. No, no, only Sītā. Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām. Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām. Rām, Rām,... Rām, Rām, Rām... Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām... Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām,... Sītā Rām... Sītā Rām. Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām... Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām, Sītā Rām. Syaavar Ramachandra Bhagavān Kī Devadhī Dev, Deveśvar Mahādev Ārādhi Bhagavān Śrīdīp Nārāyaṇ Mahāprabhujī Kī Satguru Svāmī Madhavānanjī Bhagavānakī Alak Purījī Mahādev Lalanānjī Mahārājakī Brāhmaṇānjī Mahārājakī. Sivanan̄jī Mahārājakī Om Śānti, Om Śānti, Om. That was a great day on this Mother Earth. On that day, we all should pray and sing so that you will receive a lot of prāṇa energy and everything good. Adios.
