Public lecture from Zabgreb, Croatia

The Ājñā Chakra is the seat of inner knowledge and the gateway to Self-realization. This psychic center, known as the third eye, is where the three primary energy channels merge into oneness. It represents the highest human achievement, beyond animal qualities, where individual consciousness meets the divine. The chakra's two petals resonate with the sound "Haṁ Kṣaṁ," and its essence is the mantra Oṁ. Here resides the Guru Tattva, the inner guiding light of wisdom, not merely a person. When consciousness ascends to this point through meditation, past karmas dissolve, and one experiences the unity of knower, knowledge, and the object of knowledge. This leads to liberation from the cycle of birth and death, tasting the nectar of immortality.

"Love every living being, if not more, then at least as much as you love yourself."

"No weapons can destroy it. Fire cannot burn it... I am that immortal Self."

Part 1: A Spiritual Gathering in Zagreb: Honoring 25 Years and the Agnya Chakra Ten days ago, for the first time, he was in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He was in Sarajevo for the first time and had a program there for a whole weekend. This is an opportunity to mention the great jubilee we celebrate this year for the Yoga in Daily Life system. It is the 25th anniversary of the system in Croatia. I would especially like to welcome and greet the oldest disciple of Swāmījī, Swāmī Vivek Purī. We would also like to remember on this occasion the first disciples of Swāmījī in Croatia. It is also our honor to welcome His Excellency, the Ambassador of the Republic of India, Mr. Pradeep Singh, for the first time here. Also present are Nevija Šetić, Representative in the Croatian Parliament and Representative of the Mayor of Zagreb; another representative of the Indian Embassy in Zagreb; representatives of the media and press; and representatives of NGOs and religious organizations. We will start this evening's program with a short film representing these 25 years of the Yoga in Daily Life system in Croatia. To be in the presence of an enlightened spiritual teacher is an opportunity for spiritual growth. Such a teacher is Vishwaguru Mahāmaṇḍaleśvara Paramahaṁsa Svāmī Maheśvarānanda. Swāmījī originates from the spiritual lineage of Om Śrī Alakhpurījī Siddha Pīṭṭa, the source of one of the ancient saints from the Himalayas. Śrī Alakhpurījī is one of the great Siddhas from Satyaloka, the highest cosmic level of absolute truth and reality. The Tiriśas are the protectors of this world, present on Earth for many thousands of years. Śrī Alakhpurījī is the disciple of Param Yogeśvar Svayaṁbhū Śrīdevpurījī, the great yogī from the Himalayas. After receiving initiation from his teacher, Śrī Devpurījī left the Himalayas and, at the end of the 19th century, established a small āśram in the desert village of Kailash in the outskirts of Sikar, in the Indian state of Rajasthan. Śrīdev Purījī left his physical form in 1942, giving his spiritual protection and leadership to one of the most sacred incarnations of humanity, his disciple Bhagwan Śrīdīp Nārāyaṇ Mahāprabhujī, an embodiment of divine love, wisdom, and light, who lived from 1828 to 1963 in Rajasthan. Through his words and way of life, he transmitted the eternal truth from the Sanātana Dharma, which teaches the true relationship with divine consciousness—that all living beings carry within themselves the spark of the same divine light. In this way, every human being is part of God and the whole of His creation. "Love every living being, if not more, then at least as much as you love yourself." This is the essence of Mahāprabhujī's message to humanity. Mahāprabhujī had many self-realized students. The most prominent among them and heir to the spiritual path is Hindu Dharmasamrat Śrī Svāmī Madhavānanda Purījī, who spread Mahāprabhujī's light message of Sat-Sanātana Dharma: the message of one in all, all in one. Vishwaguru Paramahaṁsa Svāmī Maheśvarānanda is the heir to the spiritual path of Śrī Alakhpurījī Siddha Pīṭṭa, since Holi Gurujī went to mahāsamādhi and left this world in November 2003. As a student of Paramahaṁsa Svāmījī Madhavānandajī, with whom he lived since childhood, Svāmījī began to spread the wisdom and light of his spiritual path around the world, arriving in Croatia in 1984. If you ask Croatian residents today about Yoga in Daily Life, you will be surprised not only by the number of correct answers but also by the number who practice or have practiced this world-famous, recognized system, which came to Europe with His Holiness Mahāmaṇḍaleśvara Paramahaṁsa Svāmī Maheśvarānanda. The first contact of Croatia with Svāmījī took place in Belgrade in March 1984, where two Croats first met His Holiness and returned to Zagreb as his students, Viṣṇu Purī and Svāmī Vivek Purī. After a preparatory seminar at Rajac in Serbia, Zagreb students organized the first Svāmī Dev seminar in November 1984 in a sports hall on Palmotića Street in Zagreb. It was Svāmījī's first visit to Croatia, and since then he has been a regular guest in Croatia and Croatian hearts. The Zagreb seminar was not an exception but a rule. Until 1988, more and more Croats, in search of spirituality and physical, mental, and spiritual health, were introduced to the system and its author at seminars held in Zagreb. Until the early 1990s, international Yoga in Daily Life seminars were held twice a year in Toplice (Tupel) Hot Springs. Since then, seeking a larger space, the organization of seminars under Svāmījī's leadership moved to Istria. Today, the Croatian seminars are among the most visited in the world, with participants numbering in the thousands. In addition to the annual seminars under Svāmījī's leadership—the crown of the yearly work of numerous instructors, students, and practitioners—hours of Yoga in Daily Life are held in almost all major cities of Croatia, along with numerous other activities. Since 1996, yoga has been practiced as part of physical education at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb, and since 1998 at the Biotechnological Faculty and the Textile Technology Faculty in Zagreb. It has also been available to students of architecture, geodesy, and river studies. In Croatia, in Umag, the first multi-religious prayer for peace was held. From the coast of the Adriatic Sea, prayers from 2001 to today have reached the whole world. In the same year, 2001, the first edition of the book Yoga in Everyday Life in the Croatian language was published in Croatia. In a very short time, this book became a sought-after bestseller. The first copy was presented by its author, Svāmījī, to the President of Croatia, Stjepan Mesić, marking the beginning of a friendly relationship full of mutual respect. In August 2002, the Croatian president expressed his respect to Svāmījī by awarding him the highest Croatian recognition for his humanitarian work. In 2002, President Mesić honored His Holiness Svāmījī with the Order of the Republic of Croatia in the image of Katarina Zrinska, the highest order in Croatia for humanitarian work. A few months later, in December 2002, during his official visit to India, President Mesić and the entire Croatian delegation visited the educational and research center founded by Svāmījī in the Indian suburb of Rajasthan. The Indian media recorded it as the first visit of a Western president to an Indian spiritual center. Croatia features in other interesting aspects of Svāmījī's rich biography. It was in Zagreb that Svāmījī met the Dalai Lama during his visit to Croatia. Several thousand visitors attend every Zagreb lecture by Svāmījī, for which ticket demand regularly exceeds supply. Among his most visited lectures worldwide are those he holds in Croatia. In 2004, at the annual celebration with Svāmījī as the honored guest, the first 20 years of Yoga in Daily Life in Croatia were recorded. In the company of his youngest family member, Avatar Purījī, Svāmījī visited several Croatian cities and opened a multicultural society in Zagreb. A year later, Croatia had the immense honor of being the organizer of the World Peace Summit, the Peaceful Summit of Śrī Svāmī Madhavānanda and the message of Mahātmā Gāndhī, recorded in Croatian history as the first Peace Summit ever held in Croatia, gathering numerous distinguished speakers from around the world. During a meeting with President Mesić, Svāmījī also visited the Croatian Assembly, meeting with Vice-President Đurđa Matlišić and several distinguished members. During the Zagreb Summit, and later at the International Yoga Seminar in Čakovec, Svāmījī planted an olive tree of peace in Split, a tradition for every subsequent visit to a city. After the book Yoga in Everyday Life, Svāmījī this year also promoted his new book in Croatian, Hidden Strengths in Man, the most comprehensive and basic part about energy centers, chakras, to appear on the market. In February 2006, a successful three-year free yoga program for educational workers was completed—the first such program in Croatia, carried out in cooperation with the Ministry of Education. Hundreds of educational workers from all parts of Croatia learned to cope with stress, strengthen concentration, and improve the ability to learn. In the summer of 2006, free yoga sessions began for the first time on Croatian beaches and in parks, introducing many Croats to yoga through this program. In 2006, World Peace Day was marked for the first time with prayers and meditations during the Balamir festival, still held in Zagreb, Split, and Čakovec. Many other Yoga in Daily Life centers in Croatia joined to commemorate this day. This is an eight-stage program aimed at achieving physical, mental, spiritual, and social health, whose benefits are felt by every practitioner regardless of physical condition, age, or religious identity. In 25 years, tens of thousands of people have passed through hours of Yoga in Daily Life. Many were profoundly affected by meeting the author of this system, who has visited all of Croatia. In addition to regular programs, special programs are conducted in Croatia for managers, for those with specific health issues, for the youngest, and even free programs for the deceased. A long list of events and activities contributed to the positive response from many Croats from the beginning of this story. God's light settled in Croatia 25 years ago and has never ceased to shine in our beautiful country, spreading the message of peace. I would now like to ask His Holiness Mahāmaṇḍaleśvara Paramahaṁsa Svāmī Maheśvarānanda to come to the stage. May I invite Your Holiness to come to the stage. I ask the representative of Yoga in Daily Life to greet Svāmījī with a small flower offering. I also ask His Excellency, Mr. Pradeep Singh, to present a floral gift to Svāmījī. [Svāmījī takes the stage.] You can put it on the table. Thank you. Come near to me. The microphone should always be in the middle, otherwise I will have a sore neck. Yes, very good. Om Śānti. Before I begin, I want to show you something, a nice toy. I have this one. I press the red button for a little longer time, and it becomes like that. Have you also? Try. Thank you. Mr. Vivek Purī, you should have given me a list of names. Thank you. Salutation to the cosmic light. Lord of our hearts, omniscient and omnipresent. In his divine presence, very good evening, dear brothers and sisters. Welcome, you all. I am always very happy to come to the city of Zagreb and see all of you. His Excellency, the Ambassador of India to Croatia; his colleagues from the Embassy of India; members of Parliament; and all others from different parts of the world who came here—brothers, sisters, and dignitaries. It’s a divine blessing to be here together with you. The subject given to me this afternoon is called Agnya Chakra. That’s beautiful. This week is a special week. This time is a very special period. We call it Navarātri—the nine nights of the Divine Mother, cosmic Śakti. She is the mother of all of us. These nine days are dedicated to her: fasting, praying, having satsaṅgs, spiritual meetings. In Hinduism, or according to the Vedic religion, there is no duality of being higher or lower, male or female. God is equal energy, equality. In the old scriptures, the Upaniṣads, written thousands of years ago, it is said: "Mātṛ Devo Bhava"—first, God is mother. Mother is that divine consciousness. Similar to mātrī bhāva, the mother’s love, therefore this feminine energy is known as a mother’s love—the mercy, the kindness. She likes purity, she likes truth, and she likes to give love to her children. Today is the fifth night of the Divine Mother—not that Divine Mother we would say is the mother of Kṛṣṇa or the mother of Rāma, the mother of Jesus, or the mother of Buddha. In one way, every mother is a divine mother. Your mother is a holy mother. It doesn’t matter how old you are, you are still her child. But this Navarātri, these nine nights, are dedicated to the cosmic energy that manifests on this planet for the sake of dharma and protection. That feminine incarnation manifests not only in humans but even in animals. Unfortunately, there were some traditions, and still there are somewhere, where they offer an animal for some ritual or magic ceremonies, or for meat—but never a female animal, never. That’s a great respect we have towards, let’s say, women. At the same time, some questions rise in your mind: "What about burning the women?" Yes, but you should know it was not begun in India. It began somewhere else. They were burning the woman, saying she is a ghost—not a ghost, but a witch. Especially those women who became widows while they were young, and to whom some spiritual persons were attracted. It’s natural. So they said she’s a witch, and she should be burned. "Husband died and she will live, then she will destroy things." And so the tradition began. Thanks to one of the kings—I don’t know the name, a Hungarian king—he prohibited this in Europe and strictly fought against it. Well, dear brothers and sisters, there are some mentally ill people. What to do? If I make a mistake, why should you be blamed? If one person makes a mistake, and others all are blamed... So, time to time, it happens that in India, sometimes people, because of marriage and money... This happens. I was surprised to hear about two months ago. I had a seminar in Salzburg, Austria. The proceeds from that lecture we gave to a women’s association for the homeless or those with problems. The organizer of that organization said, "Every third woman in Austria has experienced what you call discrimination." I hope in Croatia it’s zero point. Croatian men are very good. So generally we adore; it doesn’t matter if it’s male or female; the quality is recognized. In the quality, there is no compromise and no dualities. So, I offer my humble prayers to the Divine Mother, the Cosmic Energy. A few days ago, there was also a very holy feast for Islam, Eid. Yes, it is. It awakens the Holy Consciousness, the Divine Consciousness. Before this fourth night began, there was the time called Ancestor’s time, Pitṛ Pakṣa. We pray, we give some offerings—food, money, clothes to the poor—and perform ceremonies for the ancestors. In the entire world, in human society, we adore our ancestors: in Australia, the Aborigines; in New Zealand, the Maoris; in South America, Africa, and India. And Europe was also, and it’s still there, prayer to the ancestors. They do protect us. It doesn’t matter how many centuries have passed, that energy is with us. And now, in the first week of November, according to Christianity, there will also be the holy week: the day of all souls, the day of holy souls. So you see, the entire world, belief, religion—all are united somehow. This Pitṛpakṣa time is especially when you can approach your parents who have passed. In some cases, their energy can affect you and disturb you in a negative way. It is you who will liberate them from the Pitṛloka, the world of ancestors, to continue the journey further. And for you, it should be your children who will take care of it. Don’t take it easy. Don’t say it’s stupid things, my dear. What we know is just small. The knowledge is beyond this. The human is suffering, and human destroyed this planet because of their dry intellect without love. "I’m in love" means devotion towards God and love for the entire creation. So, within 12 months, there are certain periods of time which are connected to different planets and the entry of the soul to the different layers of the universe, different phenomena. If you believe or you don’t believe, reality doesn’t change. At the end of life, then we will say, "But Swāmījī said, you will remember," then with my Swāmījī. Proud? I don’t know what is the truth. So, dear brothers and sisters, relax and enjoy. Now I will come to the chakras. You know how many years we have lectures on the chakras, and still we are not able to finish. The science of the chakra is endless. And now I will come to the point: Ananta Brahman and Śūnyākāśa. These two words you find in the Vedas. Endless universe—we don’t know where is the beginning and where is the end. Śūnya ākāśa, a void, an empty space, nothing exists, nowhere. Only certain energy. First, the space. And that space is the mother. That’s the body of the mother. Now, in that space, there’s a consciousness. Universe and universal consciousness, compact oneness. Now, the third principle between the space and consciousness is the uniting energy, balancing. Where there is balance, there is harmony, and where there is harmony, there is unity. So that energy is known as yoga. That’s called yoga māyā. That’s called adhyāśakti, paramśakti—Divine Mother, divine power. In the Vedas, it is said, "Hiraṇya garbha"—the golden embryo. So the universe, the space, is the mother, and consciousness is that golden embryo. And that universe is round. Now, in Christianity, they take on the Eastern term "egg" that comes from the "Hiraṇya garbha" word from the Vedas. The Vedas said in that consciousness, the universal consciousness, one tendency awoke, one vibration: "Eko’ham bahusyāmi"—"I am one and I will multiply." And that is the beginning of creation in the entire universe. Through one, and that one was the sound. That sound, yogīs say, "Om." Yogī kažu daj taj zvuk OM. Akāra, ukāra, makāra represents the trinity, the three guṇas. I taj OM predstavlja trojstvo, tri guṇe, tri kvalitete. And through that sound, endless stars, moons, and suns—it is said, ananta brahmāṇḍa, śastra sūryas, endless universe and thousands of sun systems. Through which instrument did they know? Only one, the Agnya Chakra. They didn’t take it with them; they left it here, the instrument. They gave it to their generations, and luckily you also have it now. You have it. Use it or lose it. That’s it. It depends on you. From this, our planet, where we are—it is not that it was created in one day, or twenty days, or a hundred years. It took billions and billions of years. It’s very interesting, the Vedic mathematics. How many trillions of years is one day of Viṣṇu? And one movement of the eyelid is Śiva. Time of Rudra, time of Viṣṇu, time of Brahmā, and time of this planet. That’s called the minute, hour, day, year, yuga, mahāyuga, manvantara, and so on. We are nothing. Then only that vibration, energy of that origin sound. According to that time, we are not even a second creature. I have difficulty even reading how many numbers, how many zeros are there, my God. But the yogīs, the ṛṣis, realized everything through their meditation. Only the most powerful tool to know the universe is meditation, and the safest one. The first safety thing is we don’t need an oxygen mask. We don’t need any rockets. We are sitting comfortably in the posture of Yoga in Daily Life. Meditate. "The dawn has come. The night has gone. Wake, my children, wake. Sit in the āsana of meditation, gazing at the lotus feet of my master. Night has gone, dawn has come." That is the brahmamuhūrta. If you meditate at that time, then your Agnya Chakra will be purified. The rest of the time will be difficult. From the Ākāśa element, the fire element came. That’s called Śivajyoti, Nirakārajyoti—fire, flame. And through that came the air, water, and earth. Now we are on this beautiful planet. We love our planet. We don’t want to die. It’s a pity if we will die. The creator has created 8.4 million different creatures on this planet. Devī śakti and āsurī śakti—positive power and negative power. Since that time, both are fighting to have position, and still we are fighting. In every house, they are fighting. Husband fights for his position, and wife fights for her position. And children fight for their rights and positions. Fight, fight... And this fight will not go away; it will always change. My master used to say, "When you are very happy, then prepare yourself. The time will come where you will be very unhappy. And when you are very unhappy, then be happy that now soon happiness will come." Night gone, day comes, and day gone, night comes. These Śaktis, Āsurī and Devī Śaktis, influence the entire universe, and they influence our life too. Now we have nice telephones. Fifteen years ago, they weren’t here. You’re cordless. You sit on the Adriatic coast on the highland and talk in Zagreb. Police had only their wireless, but now everyone has it. But the waves of this instrument are Āsurī Śakti. This influences our heart, our organs, our kidneys, and everything. In this way, the Āsurī Śakti is constantly attacking us. So, the Creator created three different kinds of creatures: the creatures in the water, the creatures on the earth, and the creatures in the space. Now, Āsurī Śakti is active there too. Therefore, they put a protection, a protective energy. Believe it or not. You will think, maybe what Swāmījī is telling us is a nice story. But you know, to tell a nice story, you must also be very clever. You should be experienced. That story will make history. And if you don’t know the story, then it will not make a history; it will make a hysteria. The truth we will see when we give up the body. I will be waiting there, and I will say, "Good day, how are you?" Now we don’t know. So they created energy protection for the creatures in the water, on the earth, and in the space. Now again, we imitated that. In imitation, we created what is called the Navy, Ground Force, and Air Force. 8.4 million different creatures, and one is human. Now, even modern scientists have declared there is no racism—not the European race, Africans, Asians, and so on. Human is human, only one, and that’s human. Two years ago, it was reported that scientists found the first human was, or began, in the Himalayas, near Kailāś, which is in Tibet now. And that is Śiva. And there it began. Anyhow, we humans have one most powerful tool, and that is our intellect. Intellect needs education. Education, and which kind of education you will get—like that you will be. Now, through this intellect, we are working. Within our own individual phenomenon, you know, we have emotion: positive, negative, anger, jealousy, hate, happiness. Then we have memory. Then we have the ability of speaking, the words, the mind, the consciousness, the jīva, the soul—Ātmā, the self. Many, many things. We are just a balloon of energy. As soon as a negative awakening thought is there, the balloon becomes dark. It means as soon as you speak something negative to someone, it creates negativity in the atmosphere. And when you think positive, then the balloon becomes again pure, light, transparent. So in psychology, they said negative thinking means poisoning oneself, and positive thinking means enlightening oneself. This body is created out of five elements. In this body, the cosmic mother has given all the strength and energies. In this body, we have 72,000 nerves, according to yogic anatomy. Seventy-two thousand channels through which the cosmic energy is constantly flowing in the body and going through a transcendental process. And many organs—I’m not a doctor, so I cannot tell you exactly, but there are many doctors sitting; they can tell better about it. Every gland is connected to certain nerve energies. In yoga we have three major channels that govern the entire person: Iḍā, Piṅgalā, Suṣumṇā. The left nāḍī, connected with the left nostril, is Iḍā, the lunar system. The Piṅgalā, the right nāḍī, the solar system. And the central nerve is called Suṣumnā, the consciousness. The left one governs our emotions. The right one, our temperament or creativity. And the center one controls our consciousness. These three nāḍīs are responsible for the rest of the nāḍīs. Now, the prāṇa śakti—we call prāṇa, life energy. Prāṇa is not oxygen. There are ten different kinds of prāṇa, and these ten kinds of prāṇa take care of our entire being. We will know in the weekend seminar in Umag. I don’t know what Umag means. In Hindi, it means happiness: apāna, samāna, udāna, vyāna. These are five prāṇas, and then five upa-prāṇas—additional prāṇas, subtle prāṇas. With these prāṇas, responsible are three channels, and that is connecting through this spinal column. Our life began from one point. The life, the soul, enters into creation through the water. The Upaniṣad says, again, when the soul descends, coming to this planet, it comes through this water; the humidity is down into the seeds, the grains. Part 2: The Ājñā Chakra: The Seat of Knowledge and the Inner Guru The point where your life begins is, for us, the exact middle point of the universe. That is the navel, the Maṇipūra Cakra. From this navel, the rest of the body begins to develop, and we see how the spine develops. Now we come to the chakras. The 72,000 nāḍīs, or energy channels, mean there are 72,000 chakras. Each nāḍī, each nerve, each channel has an energy center; in acupressure, they call it a reflex zone. You have definitely experienced this: when you find exactly the point, the needle on the monitor will move. If it does not find the point, it will not move. So these are the chakras. "Chakra" means cycle, a disc. This is a center of energy, a psychic center; it is not physical. If it were physical, you could touch anywhere and the needle would move. So, according to acupressure, you could say these are the chakras. Buddha said, "When I came to higher consciousness, to enlightenment, I traveled back to my past where my consciousness began—from the stone till today: stones, coals, plants, fish, birds, animals, humans, and so on." This is the development of consciousness. In this body, there are certain layers, levels of consciousness, which are also governed by those chakras. From the foot sole, where it begins, to the ankle joint, are the earth chakras. Do not concentrate on your own foot and meditate; you will fall into depression. Whoever has depression, you can bring them out of it by massaging their feet, especially the soles with ghee and a brass bowl. Put ghee on the foot soles and use the brass bowl to rub it. Within five minutes, a person will come out of depression. How cheap this medicine is. Very easy. I know you don't have depression, but you can try. These are the chakras. From the ankle joint to the knee are the vegetation centers. From the knees till the hip joint are the animal chakras. Where the spine begins from the bottom, from there till the end of the spine is called the human chakras. And from where the Ājñā Cakra begins, from there upwards, are called the divine chakras. Every level of the chakras has different energy, different nourishment. The earth chakra has a quality; the vegetation chakras have their qualities; the animal chakras have their qualities. The human quality also has mixed animal qualities. We often think and say, "Oh my God, he's behaving like an animal." So, down, the Mūlādhāra Cakra is a border. Below is animal quality, above is human, but there is still an influence. There is a Kuṇḍalinī Śakti and consciousness, Śiva. If you have been in Nepal, there is one temple called Paśupati Mahādeva, Lord Śiva, the Lord of the animals. Kuṇḍalinī is the concentrated energy of your entire existence. This soul—in soul, we are in duality. My soul, your soul, other souls are different. But as a Self, the ātmā, we are one. One is the reality, the Brahman. Where are two, three? That's non-reality. Every soul has its identity. Every soul has its destiny. My destiny is different than yours, and your destiny is different than others. In one family, there are five members; all five have different qualities, different destinies. Destiny is created by karma, and everyone has a different destiny. But as the Self, the Self has no destiny. The Self is above everything. The Self is the cosmic Self, and the aim of yoga practice is to get Self-realization. Why did God give us this human life? To become free from the cycle of rebirth and death. Humans are created as protectors, not as destroyers. The aim of human life is to attain realization. There is liberation. This individual soul, from Ānanda Śakti, from the endless time, Ānanda Brahman in the endless universe, floating on the waves of time, experiences happiness and unhappiness, pain and pleasure. How many times born and how many times died? How many times you had parents, and how many times you had partners? Where have you been in the past before that too? Ādi Guru Śaṅkarācārya said, "Who am I? From where did I come? What is the cause of coming? And where will I go?" Know this; it is the answer to all your problems. So the Mūlādhāra Cakra is the level between animal and human consciousness. There, our destiny, good or bad, lies dormant. "Kuṇḍal" means a ring. They say there is a snake. Of course, I don't want to have a snake in my body, nor for you. But this is a mythological picture only. This suṣumnā nāḍī, which goes down, is coiled three times. If it had gone straight, we would have a long tail. So, thanks to God, it ended there. That is coiled. Now, why a snake? These three nāḍīs: the Suṣumnā goes straight, Iḍā and Piṅgalā move like this, like a snake curve, a serpent. "Snake" means cow. "Kāla" means past time. The Buddhists say Kālacakra. Kāla Cakra means the destiny in those maṇḍalas, your past destinies. "Realize free" means deleted. So "kal" means bhūt kāl, the past time; vartamān is present; future is bhaviṣya. We are constantly moving in this channel, but our destiny doesn't let us go. I will not talk more, as I have always spoken about chakras. Finally, Viśuddhi. All from this life and from past lives, all psychic problems are stuck in the Viśuddhi. "Viṣ" means poison. The Ājñā Cakra? Oh my God, there is something. I did not know what was happening behind me. So please, the Ājñā Cakra. This is called the third eye. There are two beliefs. Some say this eye of Śiva is not horizontal; it's vertical. My experience is that it's horizontal. When you are horizontal, you are more balanced. When vertical, then it's too much. But we will not talk if it's vertical or horizontal. This is Śiva's eye. Śiva is known as Tri-netradhārī, the one who has three eyes. With these three eyes, he sees the past, present, and future. Shiva is known as the deliberator or destroyer. He destroys all the negative energy; he purifies all the negative energy. In Satya Yuga, when the devas and the asuras began to churn the ocean in search of the nectar of immortality, fourteen Ratnas (jewels) came out. One of those was the Amṛita Kalash, the Amṛita. God Viṣṇu incarnated in the form of Dhanvantari. The origin of Āyurveda is from Satya Yuga, when Dhanvantari was manifested. Therefore, the Lord of Āyurveda is God Dhanvantari, from Satya Yuga time. So don't say ten years, or five years, or three years. No, no. Long, long ago, millions of years ago. We will learn a little bit about this in Umag. That means you have to come. It's not marketing, but time. What came? Poison came. Instead of nectar, poison. No one wanted to drink poison. If you ask me, "Swamiji, do you want to drink poison?" I will say, "Why?" And if I ask you, you will also say, "Why?" So they had poison in hand. If they threw it back in the ocean, the ocean would be poisoned. Though it is created from the ocean, the words created from yourself can become poison for you. If they threw it somewhere on the earth, the entire planet would be destroyed. They did not know what to do with the poison. Finally, Brahmā said, "Only the Ādi Śiva can do something." So they went to Śiva. He said, "Okay, give it to me, I will drink it." He drank it and kept it in his throat. As a result, his throat became blue, so one of the names of Śiva is Nīlakaṇṭha Mahādeva. Through one yoga practice called Ujjāyī Prāṇāyāma and Khecarī Mudrā with Jālandhara Bandha, he purified and neutralized the poison. So, from many, many lives, the poison which you swallow, unless it is neutralized, you will not be free. You cannot come to the Ājñā Cakra. If you can't reach the Ājñā Cakra, there is no liberation. That poison has appeared again now: the atom. Now the atom bombs are there. This is a halal wish. This is the poison. It will destroy the planet, destroy the people, but what to do? Everything that was dead materialized again in this Kali Yuga. Now Shiva has to come to neutralize all these atomic energies. We can only pray that no one will utilize this. Just keep it. We have a snake in our hand. We don't know how to free it. As soon as you free it, it will bite you. When it is in your hand, neither the snake is free, nor are you free. So if you free it, you will die. If you don't free it, you will die. So this atom is there. Now we don't know destiny. We can purify through prayers, mantras, concentration, breath techniques, and understand the science of yoga, the third eye, the Lord Śiva. That third eye means, literally for us, our intellect. It means our knowledge—the kind of knowledge which makes us know the past, present, and future. Tri-kāla Darśī, the knower of all three times. So, the Ājñā Cakra is located at the end of the spine where it joins the head, or the small of the brain, and is reflected from the eyebrow center, the Bhrūmadhya. This chakra has only two petals. Svādhiṣṭhāna has six. Maṇipūra has ten. Anāhata has twelve. Viśuddhi has sixteen. And the Ājñā Cakra has only two petals of a lotus. The resonance, the sound of these petals, the mantra, is Haṁ Kṣaṁ—"I am that." And the bīja mantra is Oṁ, the vibration. Through meditation, when your consciousness comes to citta, casts to the Ājñā Cakra, then you hear the sound of the Self. When you are below this chakra, you hear the sound of the senses—the five jñānendriyas and five karmendriyas. But when you come above, you will hear the sound of the divine. As far as you go within, you will come to that conch, the Chidākāśa, where there is no material sound. You cannot compare yourself with these material things. It means you cannot explain. That Śakti is called Anupadha. The Tattva element is Anupadha. Anupada has many meanings, but here "anu" means that divine consciousness, experiencing that divine consciousness. Also, in Sanskrit, they explain the atom, the micro. That merges into the completeness. So this soul, which is just very tiny, even not visible to our eyes, merges into the cosmic consciousness: Anupāda Tattva. Our memory is connected here. When you have some problem—a business problem, an architecture problem, a designing problem, a telephone number you don't remember—you have to make a decision. Then what do you do? You close your eyes and think. Someone bites a pencil, someone goes out for a cigarette and thinks. But you target the Ājñā Cakra because there is the seat of the Guru Tattva. So, Anupada Tattva is called Guru Tattva. What do you understand about Guru Tattva? The word is "Guru." Many people say, "I don't want a Guru." I'm sorry for them. "Gu" means darkness, ignorance, and "ru" means the light—the light of wisdom, not a person. So this is the seat of the guru, and the guru means the knower. Who knows? The one who knows can guide us, can instruct us. That is called Guru Tattva. We have many kinds of gurus: a music guru, you call my music teacher. Simply, the translation of the word "Guru" is a Sanskrit word, that's all. You can say teacher, master, driving teacher, dancing teacher, painting teacher, school teacher. If you don't believe in the guru principle, then don't go to school at all. Don't send your children to school. Finished. You are doing it, and you say you don't believe. What ignorance? There is a fight of language only, because you don't know the reality. So guru means commandment. Who is commanding? That is the guru tattva, and that is his holy seat here in the Ājñā Cakra. There are many kinds of gurus, but simply to say, the first guru is the mother. Your mother begins to speak with you already when you are in her body. The father can't talk to you. Maybe he comes and sits near your mother, touches her stomach: "Oh, how the baby feels," maybe. But the mother talks with you. I asked many times, can they tell me this technique, how they talk with their baby? So many ladies say, "Yes, Swamiji, but you have to be a mother to know this language." And I tell you also, to understand this phenomenon, you have to become a guru. That's it; practice yoga and then learn. You will become, I tell you. The second guru is our father, if he's there. Fruit remains on the tree, so the father may disappear. But the mother is there. Then your friends, brothers, and sisters. Fourth, your school teacher. Fifth, your spiritual priest. Sixth is your Satguru, your spiritual master. And finally, the seventh one is yourself. There are two candles in my hand. One is already lit. The other is still not. The candle which is burning is the guru, and the candle which is not yet lighted is the disciple. It does not mean the disciple cannot give light. We bring that candle closer to the other, and we can light it up. Jyota se jyota jagāpu Satguru jyoti se jyota jagāpu Mīra antarati mīramita Satguru jyota se jyota jagāpu. O my Guru Dev, please light my light with your light and remove my inner darkness of ignorance. That time, you become a commander. Now, you take off your flight; you know how to go through the universe. If you have not mastery, don't do it. The Ājñā Cakra is a seat of knowledge. Yesterday or the day before, I had time to see some news on television. There was a historical film from Greece with a lady who could see into the future. Sofia? No, Sophie. Sofia, no? Do you know anyone from this? Not Pitya, no. Okay. When they asked her a question, she closed her eyes and told it. Why do you close your eyes, and where are you going? You are going to your Ājñā Cakra through the light. When someone says to you, "I love you," you will not ask your heart, "Should I love him?" You will suddenly come to here. And when you don't like, then you will say, "Screws are loose." So, the Ājñā Cakra is the highest point of human achievement. Then the animal qualities dissolve; you become very calm, never any anger, never any jealousy, never any fighting. You are kind. You become a statue of kindness, an embodiment of kindness, and that kindness descending into the heart makes a holy heart. Every heart is a holy heart because your holy Self is residing in the heart. So, Oṁ is the bīja mantra. The two petals have this sound, the resonance: Haṁ Kṣaṁ. "Ham i kṣam. Now I am. Ja sam." Realize that Mokṣa, freedom. This is vibration sound. Vibracija slobode. Every five, six chakras—the five chakras of human quality—have got animal pictures. Is there some? Oh, is myself there? I should be very careful. Oh, God. You must tell me. So, is there some chakra? Yes. Which one is that? This is just all chakras. Any chakras? Svādhiṣṭhāna? My God. Is Svādhiṣṭhāna there? Not yet. Yes, now. Is there any animal? Reptile? Yes. Crocodile? My God. Crocodile—that is when you are jealous, when you are angry, when you have hate, passion. These things we call crocodiles. So every chakra has animal qualities, and we call it human weakness. We are normal human beings. We have to be angry. If you are not angry, then things will go wrong. In one village, one master came and many disciples came. The master was giving mantra. There was a very old cobra living there. When all the people went away, the cobra came to the master. "Master, can you liberate me from this life of repetition? Please, Master, give me mantra." The master gave him mantra. Read in Līlā Amṛt, his biography. How did Mahāprabhujī liberate that snake? The snake tells the master, "You gave me a mantra, but I should give you some present, flowers or something. I have nothing." Everyone has to give up some negative qualities. "But I don't know what negative qualities I have. Master, what should I give up?" The master said, "Don't bite." Okay. Now he's moving in the street. Very soon, children came to know the snake doesn't bite. Everybody is holding him, pulling him, and he's so fed up, feeling tortured. "Master, this mantra is not good. You thought a mantra would make you happy and free. When I come to my family, they don't understand me. They all bite, and I don't. They see you are now crazy." He came to the master at night. "I'm very unhappy." The master said, "Why?" He told the troubles. The master said, "Well, you misunderstood." "No, I didn't understand. I'd never bite anyone now." He said, "That's good. You don't bite, but you can frighten them." He said, "Yeah, I didn't think of that." So when someone comes near, you must frighten them. The next day, the children came, and the cobra frightened them. They all ran off. So sometimes, it is healthy when you tell your wife something, you know, or wife to husband. That is education, yes. When a husband will not tell anything to his wife, then he will suffer like that cobra. Sorry, ladies. I know you are not that. But it can be the opposite side too. Therefore, your wife knows what to answer. Excuse me. So it has no animal qualities, pure. And the divine presence: there is Śiva and Śakti. Śiva means the cosmic consciousness, and Śakti means that cosmic energy—not like male and female, man and woman. If you compare man and woman, then also in the man, 80% the female is existing. How often does a man think of women constantly? She is sitting in the Ājñā Cakra. And in women, the male energy is existing. How often do they think about a man, especially when they haven't found a good husband or a good friend? So energy is always moving; it's a wave. Never misunderstand. Shakti is the cosmic energy, and Shiva is that cosmic consciousness. Now, the Kuṇḍalinī—all the problems are solved, and coming to the unity. What a harmony in family, what love in society, what understanding, what joy of life. You become the happiest and wisest man in the world. So, this Viśuddhi Cakra is a quality, the border between the human and animal level, which I have already told. And finally, some very good news: the end of the karmas. You feel like a snake which sheds its skin. All karma is gone. Now you are above. No karma will attack you. Anything you do will just dissolve. At that time, the experience of liberation comes to you for the first time. That's called Nirbīja Samādhi, or Nirvikalpa Samādhi. Nirbīja means the seedless. Till we are in this down part, we are with the seeds of karmas. When we come to the Ājñā Cakra, now our karma seeds are rotten; you are in the light. That time, three will merge into oneness: Śiva, Jīva, and Śakti. Knowledge, knower, and object. Jñāna, jñāna... Three becomes one. That's called the highest consciousness. Be sure after this, when you will die, you will merge into the endless one. No birth and death. That time, you will begin to experience immortality. Because there is a very beautiful chakra called the Bindu Cakra. "Bindu" means the dot, and from there, nectar is dripping. At that time, you will be able to catch that nectar on the tip of the tongue. That's called the nectar of immortality. That will be next time. So I have told you everything: position, the color is like a cloud of fog, milky; Anubhava Tattva; bīja mantra Oṁ; and showing two petals. No animals are gone, and Śiva and Śakti. Ever enjoyment, ever happy, yes, only consciousness completely purified. That is the seat of the guru, the inner guru, yourself. You become that; then, guru. But don't think now you come home and say, "I am a guru." Then come to me; I will test it. There are very rare gurus, but some just imagine it's like a kangaroo. That is again unity, called Iḍā, Piṅgalā, Suṣumnā. Oh God, I've forgotten a very important thing. I would have been so angry with myself. Then I would have come to dream to tell you. The meeting of three streams is called Gaṅgā, Yamunā, Sarasvatī. The left nāḍī is known as Gaṅgā, the right is known as Yamunā, and the central one is Sarasvatī. So, this Ājñā Cakra is known as Trikuṭī. Bṛkuṭī also. "Bṛkutī" means eyebrow center. "Tri" means three. "Kutī" means where the three rivers merge into oneness—the merging of the three rivers: Gaṅgā, Yamunā, Sarasvatī. In Prayag (Ilāhābād), we have Kumbh Melā, and that began again from Satyuga, from the fight for nectar. Coming year 2010, Mahā Kumbh Melā will be in Haridwar. Don't miss it; something very unique. If you believe or you don't believe, belief does not change. No intellect, no philosophy, no religion, no science can change the truth. So it is there. Lucky are they, blessed are they who will come and, in a particular constellation time on that day, will dip in the Gaṅgā and come back. I will also do it because if I don't do it and you do, then it's not good. The planet is called Tapaloka. The principle is Viveka—correct decisions, right decisions. There are so many things you will read in your book, my chakra book, which is called Hidden Powers in Humans. If you have not read this book, then I think you will not understand me, and you will not understand the Kuṇḍalinī. Simply, the seat of the intellect, or the seat of the jñāna, the knowledge. The intellect can be polluted; that's called buddhi. Buddhi can be destroyed. What we call blackmailing. When you talk to someone negative, they say, "Yeah, it's so like this, oh God." That is your buddhi. Viveka is a very sharp knowledge. No one can manipulate you because Viveka sees the truth. Therefore, it is the seat of Viveka, and when the truth appears, then it is said evidence will never die. So you will know the truth of yourself, and you will know where to go and how to go. I made a mistake. I can't see the time. That is the same mistake. Either this or this, so I know that I spoke too much. And now you have ten minutes for questions. One minute. Two minutes for meditation. It means relax. Close your eyes and relax. Think, "What will you ask me?" Just relax the whole body. Comfortably lean on your chair. Place your hands wherever you like, on your thighs or on your lap. Palms open, facing upward. Index finger and thumb touching together. Once, deep inhale and exhale. Just relax. Relax your neck. Relax your face muscles, and relax your stomach muscles. Relax. No tensions at all, physically or mentally. No concentration. Just say to yourself, "Relax, my friend. Relax." For a time being, let me be one with myself. Relax. Still, if you can't relax, then just feel your breath—that you know you are inhaling and you know that you are exhaling. Deep inhale and exhale, and concentrate on the resonance of the Oṁ and on the peace mantra, "Śānti." Feel that vibration. Three times we will chant Oṁ. You can chant with me. Deep inhale. Deep inhale. Inhale. Oṁ... Oṁ... Oṁ... Three times śānti: Oṁ śānti śānti śānti. Peace, peace, peace. Move your fingers and fold your palms. Warm your palms and place them on your face. Warm the eyelids. So now, if you have a question, you are welcome to ask. Yes, please, if you can stand up. Yes, yes. Give her the mic. Question 1: Journalist. This question I don't ask as a journalist. Well, I was trying to relax and participate in this. I was thinking the same question in my mind from the story in the Bible, when people ask the Christ, "Who are you really?" So, as a person, I'm asking you, who are you, really? Thank you. Answer: I'm one of you. A normal human being, and I am that Self, the ātmā. God Krishna said in the Bhagavad Gītā: "Jise na śāstra kate, na agni jelāve, budhāve na pānī, na mṛti umitāve, vahī amaratmā sa chidānandamehu." No weapons can destroy it. Fire cannot burn it. Air cannot dry it, and death cannot take me away. I am that immortal Self. Sat-cit-ānanda. "Sat" means the truth. "Cit" means the cosmic consciousness, and "ānanda" means the divine bliss. So nothing else than that ātmā, in which you are that same and I am that same. In the ātmā we are one, and in the personal soul we are many. That's all. Question 2: Please, can you tell me why this chakra is also called the Christ center? Thank you. Answer: The Christ center, also called this chakra. I don't know, because the science which I told is a very, very old science from Satyuga onwards, which is millions of years, and now the chakras may be connected with Lord Jesus. So this is the seat of the Self, the seat of the Divine Consciousness. And that is the Ātmā, the Wisdom, the Knowledge, and Ātmā. Iḍā, Piṅgalā, Suṣumnā unite into that one. And in Christianity they say Holy Son, Holy Father, and Holy Spirit. That is coming connected from this trinity of the Iḍā, Piṅgalā, and Suṣumṇā. As far as I understand, thank you. Closing: Yes, I have one. It is said, if you don't have a question, that it means also I don't have an answer. I wish you a very beautiful evening. I pray to Almighty for your good health, happy, harmonious, and long life, spiritual development, and self-realization. And I wish you good night, sweet sleep, and honey dreams. God bless you. Thank you. Thank you for this beautiful lecture and for a very simple and clear answer to the question of the journalist. Tomorrow Swamiji is in Split, and he will have a lecture in the evening in the sports hall. Or you can also come to Umag for the weekend, and his tour will end in Labin on Sunday evening. Thank you for this beautiful evening, and we have a little flowers.
