Try to know what we should do

The soul's journey is from confinement to freedom. Our true Self is a droplet of the cosmic ocean, the jīva in all life. This essence cannot be killed; it merely changes form, like water becoming vapor and rain. The human body is a cage for this soul. We suffer within it, yet upon death, the soul departs with great speed. Only humans possess the capacity and responsibility for higher understanding. Do not misuse this gift to harm others. Life's purpose extends beyond basic animal functions. Follow the path of non-violence and goodness. The consequences for causing suffering are severe and lasting. All religious traditions point to this truth. Ultimately, everything returns to its source, as rivers flow to the sea.

"The soul itself cannot say yes or no. It is like a bird in a nest; in the morning, it flies out."

"God said, 'My child, I gave you all capacity, but I will not give you the completeness to kill anybody... If you do, you will suffer.'"

Good evening to all dear devotees, sisters, brothers, children—wherever you are around the whole world, you are here with me now. With this technology, Swamiji is on television across Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, America, Mexico, everywhere. It is a great thing that we can be sitting here, yet speak and see each other across thousands of kilometers. Yoga in Daily Life is under the grace of Bhagavān Siddhi, Nara, and Mahāprabhujī. We know Śrī Devapurījī, Alakpurījī, Mahāprabhujī, and Holī Gurujī. What Gurujī has given me, all his blessings, has spread around the whole world where millions now practice Yoga in Daily Life. It is a beautiful time to practice. This year, we have faced difficulties with the corona virus, and many people have problems. But we must come back to the path. We must learn that life is not only about school, college, or knowing one science or technique. That is not enough. We are human, and from birth until death, we should know and practice our own techniques. Yoga is not only for the physical body; it is about Cosmic Consciousness. Our soul, our Self, is very nearby. It is like the ocean. The Earth is small, but the water is vast. From this ocean, steam rises, forming fine droplets. This is what we call the jīva. Jīva means all living creatures—a tiny drop of the ocean. These droplets rise high into the sky as clouds. Though clouds, they are still water. They come together, form big drops, and fall back to earth as rain. And we, like that water, want to return to the ocean. Our soul is the same, whether in humans, animals, birds, or fish. Each has a life, and we should not disturb the life of anyone. This is not easy; animals eat animals. But only humans have the capacity and responsibility to take great care. Still, we step on grass and cut trees. If we take a branch from a tree, it has a life, but it is living. We, too, must survive. In that way, life is difficult. The soul itself cannot say yes or no. It is like a bird in a nest; in the morning, it flies out. Similarly, the soul goes everywhere. It is said in the Śāstra, by Kātyāyana, Agni, and Brahmā, that no one can kill or cut the jīva. But that jīva is not only mine; we are all. Water is water, air is air, earth is earth, fire is fire. All these elements are there, surrounding and protecting the soul, protecting the physical bodies. After the soul leaves the body, we enter a different life. We become very unhappy when someone dies—our parents, mother, children, animals. The feeling of loss is here and perhaps beyond. In that way, it is said... I think, I say—I don't know, I have not spoken with Him—but if I may ask and speak with God, He may only say "Aha." He will not talk completely, but we have to follow. God said to the human, "I gave you everything, all abilities." Now you should know what to do. Yet, humans think it is very difficult. When God gave everything, He said, "My child, I gave you everything." But what do we say to God? "God, I now have the power. I will not follow you. I will kill you." God said, "My child, I gave you everything, but how are you doing? I gave it, but I locked it." The lock is like a combination lock with many numbers. For humans, it is not only a few. God said, "My child, I gave you all capacity, but I will not give you the completeness to kill anybody and act like that. If you do, you will suffer." In this life, you may or may not suffer, but then you will suffer for ages and ages. In Christianity, they speak of heaven and hell. Who is in heaven? The Father. Who did what the Father instructed? Who does not follow God? God doesn’t need anything. He doesn’t say "please." We tell God, but we should tell the disciple, "Can you give me this?" No. Follow the path. Do not kill anyone. Do not create problems for anybody—humans, animals, anything. Otherwise, you go into hell, and we don’t know for how many ages we will suffer somewhere. Only we humans know this; animals may not, or perhaps they do know, but we don't. Animals have a certain capacity: to live, eat, and procreate. But, oh man, you have more than that: khānā, pīnā, bhogṇā, paśubhī, sādhanā—eating, drinking, enjoying, and doing all that you want. Animals can also do that. Oh human, all creatures can do this. Even a little ant lays eggs. If you as a human are doing only that much, then why do you feel life as if you are human? In that way, it’s not easy. Some people think this is a different tradition or religion. It is very difficult to know exactly. Therefore, it is said: just live. Live your life in a good way. Do good things for everyone. Do not do anything negative. You will suffer my death here. After death, the soul departs. This astral body—what are we calling it? Maybe they are in the astral body. Maybe they see everything, but we can’t see them. They need neither water nor breath. Two things: are we in the cosmic world? Are we together with someone? We sit in satsaṅg like this. We go for eating, dancing, everything, or we know no one. We are everywhere. We don’t need to sit down; we can go through rocks, through waters—the jīva, the soul. But what is that damn life? Many times, someone comes in a dream. We humans perform ceremonies when someone dies. We are unhappy when any being dies. After death, we perform a ceremony and see the body burned in fire or buried in earth. But that soul is gone. When one dies—what we call the body dies—the soul goes out. The soul says, "How many years I was in a cage!" It is like putting a bird in a cage. We look out; we cannot fly or go out. No friends are there; maybe other birds look from outside, but we are in the cage. One day, if the master mistakenly leaves the cage door open, the bird flies out. How quickly! They say, "Oh my God, my bird is glad, my bird is gone." We gave it good water and food; it had a nice, happy time. But that bird said, "I was imprisoned from that day to this day. Now I fly very far." They ask, "Have you seen my bird somewhere?" So we should not put them in a cage. Please don’t do it—to animals or to us. Let them be free. You can offer food; you can throw food for the animals. Similarly, we ourselves are in a cage—the cage of our body. We don’t know how much we will suffer. We feel our body: bone problems, muscle problems, nerve problems, organ problems. Who is that? That jīvā is suffering in this. We try to maintain ourselves because we have been in this cage for so long. We don’t know where we will go when we leave. Then no one will come with us. There is a story. A grandfather died, and everyone was very unhappy. The funeral took place. It is said one should not keep a dead body long in the sun. If the sun sets before the funeral, we sit with lights and perform pūjā, but we must conduct the funeral the next day. There are different methods: some put the body in water or rivers, some in holes in the earth, some burn it in fire. Others, the Parsis, take the dead body without any cloth and place it outside in the forest so that animals will eat it. There is no soul, but at least the body will give itself to others. There are many traditions. This great-grandfather was a great, positive, humble man. The whole village and neighboring villages were happy with him. When he died, everyone was sad, and hundreds of thousands came to the funeral. They conducted the funeral with fire. That evening, the family sat in the house, unable to sleep. Around ten o’clock in the dark, cold winter, in a small village, people were talking about the grandfather. Then the great-grandfather came to the window outside, knocking. They opened the curtain. "Grandfather is there! No, he’s a ghost!" They closed it. He went outside the house, became a ghost, and was talking: "Please, can I come in, my children?" But he could not speak properly; it was only like an astral body. They said, "Oh God, this is disturbing." He said, "That’s all, my children. My whole life I was with you, and it was very nice. Now I’m freezing, and you can’t open my door. It’s my house." They said, "No." All was closed, lights off. That is our grandfathers. We know how long it is like this. It is said that when the soul leaves this cage, it is so speedy—just like a flame going far, far away. Where has the flame gone? The light, where has it gone? Deepak bhuj gayā, kahā̃ gayā? Deepak bhuj gayā, kahā̃ chalī gayī? This light is exactly like our soul. It is gone. Then we can do everything; we can fight each other. "It is my house, I want this house, I want this money." We talk only of properties. Only one person said, "You may take all. I only had my great-grandfather, and he is with me now, and I will be with him. What can I do? What do I need from him? Everything will remain here, for you or for me also." I said, "It’s my book, let’s go. Take this, take that." But that soul doesn’t need anything. Therefore, let’s go. Who said this? Great saints, great yogīs, great gods, holy saints. Every country, every religion, has God and teachings. They tell us, "My child, I gave you freedom. Just go and play. Have a good meal. Now I will again take my child with me." Think hard. Many, many old people have no one to take care of them. In the hospital or anywhere, they only say, "This one should die. Let it go, die." That’s all. We humans do this too. But we must try to give love. When we were in the mother’s womb, we came from the cosmos, through the air, through water, through fruits or something, and came to the mother’s body. It comes to the navel. We have the navel, and this is a very tiny, tiniest point inside. The navel forms, and life is there. We should not think it is only in the brain or heart. We are connected from the cosmic to this astral world through the five elements. They enter, come there, and the body is constructed in the mother’s womb. The father knows, but I don’t know. The mother knows, and she begins to talk with that being. We all develop day by day, month by month. Sometimes there are two—maybe brother and sister. Then we say, "That’s enough." The mother was suffering. Once we have eight, we don’t want more. But someone said, "No, let my children come more: one, two, five, ten." The Australian king and queen—how many children? Austrian, yes. Anyhow, very good. But now you cannot get more children because they have lost all seeds. Only one comes, one will be, and then you have to get a new one. We don’t know which soul will enter this world. Now, what they are telling—you see in many hospitals, there is a sign. I was in the Czech Republic, in Dr. Martin’s hospital. We went to a doctor, and there was a sign: "Egg Bank." I said, "Bank of the eggs? What is that?" I had not asked. Then I asked Mansa Devi, "What is that egg’s bank?" He said, "No, it is for the humans." Where is my father? Where is my mother? Who was my mother with that? This is Kali Yuga. The seed is there. There is a very nice poem. It is said: Pata, tuta da, lese—the leaves of the tree fall down. "I was with that, my branch, my family, but now these leaves became old." Then a strong wind came and took the leaves very far. The mother was here, but the leaf is gone forever. The strong wind has taken the leaves and thrown them to the other side of the hill. When we separate, when will we come together again? So we, the soul, our bodies—all humans—and therefore every religion (maybe some religions not, but Christians very much, Hindus very much, Buddhists very much, I think Muslims also) ask: where is this soul going? So we protect our parents and families, wishing them to be in our kingdom—the kingdom of earth. May I come again to my parents. Sometimes people say, "Yes, my daughter is exactly like my grandmother." It is because of that egg. You don’t know where she is; she is not dead. But at least we say, "May it be mine." But there is no blood in it. In the cell, this cell, the jīvā—we cannot pull anything inside. That is completely different, but still we sometimes think, "When I die, I will give my children everything. And children, please take care. May I come again to you, my dear." But we don’t know. It is a very fine drip of water that comes down with the wind and air, forms rain, and drip by drip becomes water, then a creek, then a river, and again goes to the ocean. So when I will be again, therefore, my dear, keep your children, parents, mothers, grandparents together. Do not take the leaf out somewhere. When you are first husband and wife and make children, you should continue that. Otherwise, you think, "I’m happy, and yes, I take other girls or other women or children there. Temporarily, it is good. I am happy." But you will be suffering in a cage somewhere in this space or as a human. You should know that animals also control very much. In the stomach, in the womb of the mother, it seems there are two babies. The girl said to her brother, "Brother, when we are born, it will be nice." He said, "Where should we go?" "No, there is nothing out. We are here. We will speak." "What will you speak?" "Oh, we will eat, my brother. We will eat. We are not eating now; we are here." And she said, "And we will be very big, and we will also get children." "Don’t talk nonsense. This is a talking in the stomach." "Yes, talking like that." And it will speak further and more. So, my dear, everything, even the jīva, is in the egg. And the egg knows, and the bird knows. That’s why the mother warms the egg on the mountain, and there the baby develops. To take a dog’s egg is not good; that is not food. That is a different thing; I will talk about it later. So, my dear, we are human. Let’s try to know: What am I? What should I do? I should not give trouble to anyone, not kill them, not take their blood. It is a lot, you know. The Christians know a lot of it. How the mother of Jesus suffered until her son died. And Jesus himself, how much he had to suffer. He did not feel troubles or pain; it was his body. But his body is like ours, yet he is the highest God. He saw us and said, "My children, look, don’t suffer like that." That’s why we go to church, kneel down, and pray. Whenever we see the Holy Mother, we bow down. But we’ve forgotten now. We say, "Yes, my religion, my church, my this." But what are you doing? Killing a cow, many animals—not like this. Well, my dear, I wanted to talk today about Haṭha Yoga, and Haṭha is beautiful. I didn’t think I would talk about this, but my Gurudev—I look really, every day I bring something, and I said I will talk about this today. And here the boss said, "Do go there." Who is my boss? Mahāprabhujī, Holy Gurujī. And you are my friends, all my dears. It is your heart that is calling me. And my heart is opening there, and my heart is thanking God. Oh.
