Holy Guruji's Mahasamadhi Celebration (2/2)

Happiness is not found in worldly objects, positions, or people. Every being seeks happiness but remains in distress. Material wealth and power do not grant peace; they often bring anxiety. The solution is devotion and satsaṅg. Saints descend to provide this means. Satsaṅg grants peace and bliss. One must chant the name of God. The tongue's function is to speak; using it for divine praise is easy, yet many misuse it. Satsaṅg is of two types: Chetan Satsaṅg, the live company of saints, and Jada Satsaṅg, daily practice at home through bhajans and sacred texts. Daily spiritual practice is as essential as daily food; it prevents mental disorders, sadness, and tension. Abandoning worship leads to worry. The mind is restless like a demon or river; it must be given divine work through satsaṅg and the guru's guidance to follow the right path. Celebrating a master's anniversary is to adopt their inspiration and transform one's life.

"Guru samajhāvere dhane dolat aur mahal khajāna sab yahī rah jāvere... Ant samay jīv jāye akelā, sāth nahī̃ āvere."

"If you have satsaṅg in your life, you are always happy. You have no mental problems."

To the illuminator of that divine tradition of the Vedic-knowing and Brahman-established, to the supreme among that divine paramparā, I bow to the sacred feet of that Divine Mahāpuruṣa. To the ever-remembered, worshipable, venerable, Vedic-knowing and Brahman-established, the supremely devoted jewel among heroes, our revered Dādā Gurudev Bhagavān—bowing to His holy feet—and to the World Teacher, Mahāmaṇḍaleśvara, the Most Worshipful Śrī Gurudev Bhagavān, I offer my salutations to His sacred feet. This day, this moment, has arrived bearing a divine inspiration for all our lives. By the grace of such great souls, we are gathered here today, partaking in this unique satsaṅg. On this stage is our dear Gurubhai, Svāmī Avatārapurī, along with devotees present from across the world. Devotees, this was the teaching of the Most Worshipful Dādā Gurudev Bhagavān: the living beings in this vast universe are wandering; they are in great distress. From a tiny ant to a mighty elephant, every creature desires happiness. Does it not? Even an ant, what does it do? In winter, it collects grains of wheat for itself. Thus, every being is in search of happiness. How, then, do we attain happiness? What effort must we make? Even I am sitting here. Mahārāj, you have arranged a fan for a breeze, installed lights beautifully, placed a sofa. You also need a comfortable bed. What does every creature need? It needs happiness. But how do you obtain it? Will you find happiness in the material objects of this world? From any person in the world? By acquiring vast wealth, high position, great knowledge, or immense power? If someone becomes powerful, wealthy, and knowledgeable, tell me, has anyone thereby achieved happiness? No matter how high a position one attains in the world, a person remains troubled. Consider the wealthiest person in India. Does he exist or not? Yet, I doubt that person sleeps comfortably for even a second. He is anxious: "My money will run out. How will I earn more?" Thus, every creature is sorrowful. What, then, is the solution for attaining happiness? What must we do? In our lives, such great souls appear and tell us: Children, devotees, friends, happiness is not in the world's material things. Happiness lies in the bhajan of Bhagavān. Therefore, Dādā Gurudev Bhagavān says that in this world, to give solace to every living being or human being burning with worldly attachments, saints and great souls descend (avatārit). And what do they tell us upon descending? Through satsaṅg, they provide us with such a means that, upon receiving it, a person experiences bliss. Now tell me, how happy are you? Are you experiencing happiness or not? This is the effect of satsaṅg. It grants a person peace. That is why you have come to satsaṅg. What must you do after coming? You must not merely talk or sit idly. You must chant the name of God. In the satsaṅg that is happening, either sing bhajans. If you cannot sing, then at least... Look, let me tell you a wonder. You all know the wonders of the world; there are eight. But what is the wonder of Paramatmā? See, God has given everyone present a face and a tongue to speak. Say "Rām." God has given everyone a soul. Is it easy or difficult to take God's name? You can say "Rām Rām," can't you? Does it hurt to say "Rām Rām"? I feel that for one who has bodily pain, by taking the name of Rām, that pain is also relieved. So, taking God's name is easy. What is the function of the tongue (Jihvā)? To speak. If you come to satsaṅg, you will listen to bhajan, you will speak bhajan. If you go to a wicked person, to bad company, then you will abuse, you will criticize—but the tongue is the same. What can you do with this tongue? You can sing the bhajan of God, you can praise the saints, you can take the name of God. And what else can you do with this tongue? We can criticize. We can abuse. So, the tongue is not a trivial thing. But what is the greatest wonder? It is easy to take God's name. That is the tongue's function—to speak. Yet, what are human beings doing in this world? Mahārāj, they are traveling toward hell. There can be no greater surprise than this. Therefore, we must avoid hell. What must we do to avoid it? We must continuously chant the name given by Gurudev. That is why Mahāpuruṣas come. Why did Dādā Gurudev come into the world? We are celebrating his Pūrṇitī (anniversary). Why are we celebrating? Have you come only to eat at the feast (Bhaṇḍārā)? Have you come to receive Prasāda? If you come to see Gurujī, you will get prasāda—no, Mahārāj, that is not the only reason. The special reason for celebrating the anniversary of a Mahāpuruṣa is this: what inspiration does the Mahāpuruṣa give in our lives, and how does he transform our lives? That is why Dādā Gurudev Bhagavān said: Guru samajhāvere dhane dolat aur mahal khajāna sab yahī rah jāvere, dhane dolat aur mahal sab yahī. Ant samay jīv jāye akelā, sāth nahī̃ āvere. Guru samajhāvere, chet chet ab jīv ajñānī avasar jāvere, guru samajhāvere. All worldly things, Mahārāj, will remain here. Everyone knows this. But even knowing, what is to be done? Satsaṅg must be done. Mahārāj, satsaṅg happens here only two or three times a year. What to do at home? You do not go there to recite. So, shall I tell you a simple solution? If you wish to do it, I will tell you. The great souls gave a simple solution. See, satsaṅg is of two types. How many types? You will remember, right? One is Chetan Satsaṅg and the other is Jāḍa Satsaṅg. What is Chetana Satsaṅg, Mahārāj? Right now, in this divine gathering, this opportunity, a saintly Mahāpuruṣa will speak to you. You sit and listen, you worship. What is this? It is Chetan Satsaṅg. And what is Jada Satsaṅg? You will go home from here. This program lasts two or three days, but on the fourth day you will go home. And what to do at home, Mahārāj? The divine books of the great souls, the bhajans written by them, the sādhanā taught by Gurudev—that sādhanā. What should you do sitting with your whole family? Daily, sing two or three bhajans. If you sit at home and sing with your family, then the satsaṅg of your entire life is accomplished, not just for one day. Tell me, do you eat daily, or only once? Mahārāj, just as food is required daily to run this body, similarly, to keep the mind healthy, the Lord's bhajan is required every day. If a person dedicates one hour daily of his life to the Lord, then, Mahārāj, he will never be afflicted by mental disorders. He will not be sad, troubled, depressed, or frustrated. He will have no tension in life. Why are people in the world today worried, sad, tense, and depressed? Because you have all abandoned the worship of the Lord. You have stopped coming to the saints. You have stopped performing the Lord's worship. You have stopped doing satsaṅg. When these elements return to your life, then I guarantee you—sitting on this stage—there will be joy in your life. Tell me, why is there happiness in the lives of saints? Are the saints happy or not? Why are they happy? They also live in the world, just like you. Do they have a larger family than you or not? You have two, four, ten people, but we have so many families. Vāsudeva kuṭumbakam—Pūjya Gurudeva Bhagavān said, not only for India but for the whole world, he declared this from the depths of his heart. By upholding this in his life, he also saved people. What did he say? Vasudeva Kuṭumbakam—the whole world is my family. And you witness all of that here. This is the influence of Pūjya Gurudev Bhagavān. It is penance, it is meditation. By the grace of Gurudev Bhagavān, we are sitting here. So remember: Chetan Satsaṅg and Jada Satsaṅg. If you adopt both in life, there will definitely be joy. We could talk all night, but let us also listen to others present here. Salutations to Deep Nārāyaṇa Bhagavān. Oṁ Śrī Alagpur Jī Siddhāpīṭ Paramparā. I bow to the holy feet of His Holiness, our beloved Gurudev Viśvaguru Jī, and to this divine occasion that has brought us together to celebrate. This divine occasion grants us spiritual energy, positive energy, and the blessings of our paramparā. We are celebrating the anniversary of our holy Gurujī. To all the dear devotees listening via digital media, those sitting here, and those who have come from afar to celebrate or to attain spiritual growth at this divine place—the center of yoga and life, the Oṁ Āśram, created by Viśvagurujī—I welcome all devotees of Mahāprabhujī and Viśvagurujī. Welcome to this divine place. You are having satsaṅg here, listening beautifully, enjoying bhajans. I wish to share something that Holy Gurujī mentioned in his lectures, regarding why we always celebrate the anniversaries of the Divine Masters, the Divine Seekers. Why do we celebrate? What do we gain? Holy Gurujī always said that this whole world suffers from many kinds of sadness, depression, tension, frustration; all are unhappy, burning from within. Why? Because they are living life only in the materialistic world, disconnected from spiritual life. So what should we do? He said there is only one thing: you can obtain purity, you can enter spirituality, you can attain positivity, you can enter the spiritual kingdom. He emphasized that only satsaṅg gives us the power, peace, happiness, and love. Therefore, we should always have satsaṅg in our life. I was explaining how to have satsaṅg daily. There are two kinds of satsaṅg. One, what we are doing now, is called Cetana Satsaṅg. The other is called Jaḍa Satsaṅg. What is the difference? When you go to divine masters, saints, great teachers, you are having satsaṅg, as we are here. Every program, many saints come. Viśvagurujī gives lectures. This is live, Chetan Satsaṅg—the live satsaṅg you get only on special occasions like celebrations, Guru Pūrṇimā, Holy Gurujī's anniversary, or Mahāprabhujī's anniversary. But how do we get daily satsaṅg? You know, Viśvagurujī created a divine system: Yoga in Daily Life. It is not for one day, but for daily life. If you practice it daily, you reap the benefits. Similarly, how to have satsaṅg in daily life? Viśvagurujī has not only created yoga; he has given a new life through Yoga in Daily Life. So when you are at home, what should you do? Jada Satsaṅg. You have many books of Mahāprabhujī's bhajans, Holy Gurujī's bhajans, and Viśvagurujī's lectures. When you read by yourself, or gather with your family, brothers, sisters, or friends, you can have satsaṅg every day. That is called Jāḍa Satsaṅg. Through satsaṅg, you change your life. That is why Holy Gurujī always said that if you have satsaṅg in your life, you are always happy. You have no mental problems. Nowadays, everyone suffers from tension, frustration, depression. These are all diseases of the mind. How do we control them? We can control them only through satsaṅg, through what Viśvagurujī has given: the mantra, divine bhajans, divine chanting, divine sādhanā. If we do not do satsaṅg, what happens? Holy Gurujī told a beautiful story about the mind. A disciple went to Gurudev and said, "Please, Gurudev, tell me something so I can control a demon." There was a demon in his field; he was a farmer. Gurudev gave him a mantra, saying, "If you chant this, the demon will be under your control." The disciple went to the field. The demon appeared. He applied the mantra Gurudev taught him and controlled the demon. They had an agreement: if controlled, the demon would obey. The farmer said, "If I control you, you must follow my orders." The demon agreed but added one condition: "If you do not give me work, I will eat you. So be careful; you must always give me work." A demon can act very fast. If told, "Go bring water," he does it in a second. So the farmer said, "I have a big field. Do all the work there and then come to me." The demon finished in minutes and returned, asking for more work. The farmer said, "I have no more work." The demon replied, "Then I will eat you." The farmer went back to Gurudev. "Gurudev, I have another problem." "What problem now? I gave you the mantra. He should be under your control." "Yes, Gurudev, the mantra works. He is under my control, but if I don't give him work, he will eat me." Gurudev said, "That is why you always need a guru. You must always come to the guru. The guru will always show the way. Take a big bamboo, put it in the field, and tell the demon to go up and down it until you give other work." The farmer did so. The demon went up and down the bamboo. This story applies to our life. It is about our mind. Our mind is always going here and there. It never stops. We say it is unstable, restless. If your mind is running, you cannot rest. The mind is restless. What to do? If you do not give it work, if you do not give it satsaṅg, if you do not provide good company, it will lead you into bad company, into hell. Therefore, to control your mind, you must follow the guru's words (guru-vākya). You must have satsaṅg. Give good things to your mind. Then it will not wander; it will go on the right path, the highway. Let me give another example. Everyone has seen a river, like the Gaṅgā. It comes from the mountains. People build dams to stop it. But if you only stop the river, never letting it flow on its course, what happens? It will become full and burst, flooding everywhere, drowning us all. So what must we do? We must control the water by giving it a proper channel. If we do not make a riverbed, the water will come and destroy us. But if we create a divine river, give it a proper course, it will flow beneficially, providing water for our fields. Similarly, the mind is always running. You must give it a direction. If we give it the right way, it will travel the highway. Otherwise, it will get lost in villages and never reach its destination. That is why, for the mind—just as a healthy body needs good, nutritious food—a healthy mind needs satsaṅg, bhajans, and mantra chanting. If we neglect this, our mind becomes diseased. Holy Gurujī always said to control your mind, have satsaṅg every day. That is why we ask: Are we having satsaṅg in our life? Through satsaṅg, we can change not only our own life but everyone's. I experienced this myself. By the blessings of Viśvagurujī, I was in Europe in December for the first time, in Vienna. There is the Mahāprabhū Dīp Āśram. When I went, I felt divine, positive energy. I saw the divine Mahāprabhū, all his belongings, his pādukā, his clothes. But the main thing Viśvagurujī brought to Europe is the divine light of Mahāprabhujī. That divine lamp has been there for 48 years. I was shocked to see it. Viśvagurujī brought it to Europe to give light to every devotee there. Viśvagurujī is always giving us light, showing us the divine path, guiding us. We are celebrating Holy Gurujī's divine anniversary. One more point: Why do we celebrate the anniversaries of great masters? We celebrate to take a message from their lives—what they accomplished, what good qualities we can adopt from their lives. Part 2: The Grace of the Guru's Sādhanā Holy Gurujī performed sādhanā all his life. He chanted mantra and wrote bhajans not for himself, but for us. He undertook spiritual practice for all of us, and that is why we now live a divine life. Why? Because of the holy Gurujī. Therefore, I offer praṇām again and again to the holy Gurujī, Vishwa Gurujī. I welcome all dear devotees and convey many, many blessings from the divine Om Śrī Alagpur Jī Siddhapīṭ Paramparā. After that, our devotee of Gurudev, Śrī Pappujī Garg, will also get the benefit of satsaṅg through his bhajans. After that, Shri Suresh jī, the devotee of Gurudev, will praise Mahādev through his stuti. In this way, the satsaṅg will continue. If you have come, then listen and make this night into a satsaṅg. Guru bhāgyate re māyī māyī bhuṅgerai, Bhāgyate kī māyī māyī mā pāre. Guru bhāgyate re māyī māyī mā pāre. Mahāpuruṣa has explained that the glory of Guru-Bhakti is unparalleled. Even if we describe it with the last words, we cannot describe the glory of the Guru Mahārāj. It is the glory of the Guru Mahārāj. Those who have good fate go to the Guru’s abode and do their welfare. The rest, in this discourse, Mahāpuruṣa has said that the glory of Guru-Bhakti is unparalleled. How can we know that Guru-Bhakti has many things? Many Gurus, many Gurus, many Gyanas, many words, many words,... many words,... many words. This world is a deep river of the ocean. There is unceasing sorrow in it. Guru Mahārāj frees us from all these sorrows and sufferings. In such a great world of Guru Mahāraj, no one can cross this world other than Guru Mahāraj. Bhakti kare nar sura pura, chalano hai khaṇḍa kī dār. Because if you go to the abode of Guru Mahārāj, then only he can follow the words which he plays on khaṇḍa. If he is strong, if he has good deeds, then only he can go to the abode of Gurū Mahārāj and do his mokṣa kalyāṇa, mokṣa, etc. Then it is said that there is a path of devotion, which is very detailed and which cannot be described. Only if we follow the path of devotion can we attain the grace of Guru Mahārāj. Then it is said, "Kait Kabīr suno bhai sādhu, sādhu sevā se, guru sevā se utāro la par. Agar kare sevā to pave mevā. Agar guru sevā ke binā koī jñāna sīkhnā chāhtā hai, aur keval guru kī bāt karte unse parne paḍtā hai, guru sevā kis prakār kī jātī hai?" It can be understood by going to Mahāpuruṣa’s śaraṇa that this is how Guru Seva is done. With body, mind, wealth, and words, whatever sevā should be done, by the grace of Guru Mahārāja and saints, that sevā should be understood. And the one who does Seva in that way becomes great. And the Mahāpuruṣas who have reached, they have reached their high post by doing Guru Sevā. Goal. Śrīguru Bhagavān Kī Jaya Ho. They too will benefit you through their bhajans. Śāntakoṭi Sant Rāmdās Niśdhin Karuṇ Salām Namo Rām Gurudev Jī Jantrikal Ke Bandh Digan Haran Maṅgal Karaṇ Śrī Rāmdās Ānand Saṅgat Kī Je Sant Kī Kyā Nugra Se Kām Nugra Lijāve Narak Mein Sant Milāve Rāma Sant Mīlāverā Nārgībāyakade De Apnā Upadeśa Gyāna Kī Jājansade Maṅgalgirī Uketāhe Amar Basavodhā Saṅgata Kī Je Santa Kī Kyānugra Sekhā. If we want to do satsaṅg, then what do we have to do? We have to do the satsaṅg of the saint, i.e., the satsaṅg of Gurudev. Nowadays, many people believe in Gurudev. They keep a picture of the Guru, they do pūjā, they wear a mālā, they bow to Gurudev, they bow to Gurudev. They believe that they have a Guru, but they don’t believe in the Guru. They believe in Gurudev, but they don’t believe in the Guru. Guru, photo, idol, picture, they believe in everything, they meditate on the sun, the lamp, but they don’t believe in the Guru. Those who don’t do what the Guru says, they don’t believe in the Guru. The Guru says, "There is Bedī, there is Jāṛā, there is Tamākū, there is Bhāṅg, Gañjā, there is Hityāḍī, Nisapāṭā, don’t do it." And those who do Jairiyo, they don’t believe in the Guru. They believe in the Guru, but they don’t believe in the Guru. So, if you believe in the true Guru, if you believe in the Guru, then go ahead. If you don’t believe in the Guru, then don’t go ahead. If you serve the Guru, then go ahead. All those who have gone ahead by serving the Guru, I will say one bhajan. Our Majīrawālā has given all this. He is giving a very good bhajan. If you give strength to the earth and the sky, it will not give you so much strength. God bless you. Sevā Sobha Sāde Deva Sāde Bhara Me Beda Me Batāwe Gurujī sāde beda me batāwe, niśimoni gyānī dhyānī sab guṇa gāve. Niśimoni gyānī dhyānī sab guṇa gāve... God bless you. God bless you. Rām Prasād Jī Mahārāj has given the same name and the same work. What is the name? Rām Prasād. So, Maryādā Puruṣottam, Rām Prakāś. See, Rām Prasād Jī is there and Rām Prakāsh Jī is also there. And in the world too, there is the light of Bhagavān, there is the light of Rāmjī, and there is his prasāda. So, you have recited the bhajan in the glory of the name of the great divya. And in the glory of the name, the saints have also said the same. Goswāmī Tulasīdāsa Jī Mahārāja has also said the same. So it is the glory of the name of the Lord. Until the name does not come in the life of the human being, the grace of the name does not come. Till the time Gurudev Bhagavān, the mantra-like name of Bhagavān, is not given, till then the life of a human being remains incomplete. That is why Rām Prakāshjī gave a lot of light in the matter of the glory of the name. He gave a lot of divine bhajans. Now, among us, the Guru-Bhakta, who always uses his nectar in his bhajans and benefits the bhajans, Pappujī Garg, in our medium, we will listen to the bhajan. Before that, Suraj Jī wants to sing one more Śiva Stuti. So, from the medium of one Śiva Stuti, then Pappujī Garg. You have to take care of the bhajans of the king, the Lord. You have to take care of anyone who is tired and would like to go to sleep. You can... Bhagwan Pashupatinath, Bhagwan Kailash Adipati, Kailash Adinath, Sri Shankar Bhagwan Stuti, Suresh ji presented in our medium, in which Bhagwan Shiva’s divine forms were described. Bhagwan’s form was described, and now our divine tradition, Om Sri Alagpuriya Siddhapit, in this tradition. All the great men in the world, all the great men of Siddhakṣetra, through those great men, through those great saints, the whole of life, the bhajan, the bhajan which they have written, a book, why did they do it? For all of us. So through those bhajans, Papujī is in between us; he will make us listen to the divine, beautiful, sweet words of these bhajans. Now, Papuji Garg will sing the beautiful, divine bhajans of our divine Om Śrī Alagpur Jī Siddha Pīṭṭa Paramparā. Some of Mahāprabhujī’s bhajans, holy Gurujī’s, which they were writing, were not only for them, but for all of us, who are human, who want the satsaṅg, who want the liberation, who want the divine path, who want to get the mokṣa. For them, they wrote the divine bhajans that the human... Can we get a divine way, a divine path? So now we are listening to Papuji. He is a very good singer. He is always coming here to give the seva to the divine holy feet of our divine paramparā, Pābujī Garg.
