Listening to Shiv Mahapuran Uplifts the Soul
11:10 - 12:52
|
From: 11 May 2016
The Śiva Purāṇa reveals how ego and desire obstruct truth and peace. Brahmā and Viṣṇu debated supremacy until Śiva directed them to meditate, where the eternal truth is found within. Ego arises with "I," and desire with "want"; cutting both yields peace. Dakṣa Prajāpati, filled with pride, insulted Śiva by excluding him from a sacrifice. His devoted daughter Satī attended despite Śiva's silent warning. Hearing her father's insults, she immolated herself in the sacred fire. Śiva, though omniscient, manifested fury and sent Vīrabhadra, who destroyed the sacrifice and beheaded Dakṣa. Upon his wife's pleas, Śiva restored Dakṣa's life with a goat's head, teaching that one must bear the consequences of personal karma. The story symbolizes that ignorance and ego make one animal-like, while meditation restores purity. All pain and gain are temporary; be a witness without attachment. True education is physical fitness, mental strength, and spiritual elevation, not mere academic degrees. Divine knowledge brings lasting enjoyment, making worldly addictions unnecessary.
"When you cut 'I' and 'want,' then only say 'peace,' then you will get it."
"Everything has to go. It will go away."

Preparation for advanced postures

From: 9 Jul 2016
Preparing the body and mind is essential for Kriyānuṣṭhāna. Discipline is required, not all must perform advanced postures like a handstand. A foundational requirement is the ability to sit motionless for a minimum of one hour, cultivating kāya-sthairyam for a steady mind. Physical preparation over a year is needed, focusing on postures like the half and full butterfly to increase flexibility in the hamstrings and hips. Practice must be done correctly, prioritizing the quality of movement over quantity. The goal is to coordinate body and breath, leading to awareness and inner experience. Yoga integrates body, breath, and mind for peace and harmony.
"Now yoga begins with anuśāsanam, which means discipline. No discipline, no success."
"Our mind is like water in our body. When you move your body, your mind also moves."

The Flow of Breath and Mantra
14:00 - 14:42
|
From: 2 Oct 2010
Connect breath and mantra in meditation.
Allow the breath to move freely, linking the inhalation through the nostrils to the stomach's movement. Find where the breath touches the center of the chest. Practice with a personal mantra and mālā. Without a personal mantra, listen to the sound of the breath inside; this sound is So Ham. 'So' is the inhalation, 'Ham' the exhalation. Be aware of the mantra's meaning, as it is the connection to the divine. Mantra is fulfilled by realizing its meaning, helping to understand the inner and outer worlds. This repetition makes one strong, filling the being with divine vibration. What hinders will pass. This time is for prayer to remove ignorance and become one.
"Repeat this mantra when you have no personal one."
"A mantra is fulfilled by realizing its meaning."
The mind is a cheater

The inner battle is governed by the polluted antaḥkaraṇa, making bhakti yoga the essential path in Kali Yuga.
The antaḥkaraṇa consists of four principles: manas, buddhi, citta, and ahaṁkāra. These are polluted by malā, vikṣepa, and āvaraṇa. The mind is particularly greedy, tempted, restless, and a thief; it is a reflection one cannot correct by cleaning the mirror. This restless mind governs the other principles and leads one astray. Impurities from countless lives persist as tenacious saṃskāras. Knowledge and dispassion can split these deep impressions. In this age, the destructive energy is strong. The only boat for crossing the ocean of existence is the repetition of the name and mantra through bhakti yoga.
"Mana lobhī, mana lalacī, mana cañcal, mana cor."
"Kali yuga kevala nāmādhāra, sumira sumira nara hoi bhava pāra."
